Additionally, SkillsRI manages the RI Small Business HUB, designed to provide supportive, coordinated services for small business enterprises, as well as entrepreneurs looking to start and grow their businesses. The Hub provides access to several critical areas such as technical assistance, leadership development, professional services, and support to new and developing small businesses.

Position Summary
The Capital Lending Specialist is a pivotal role at the RI Small Business HUB, dedicated to supporting the growth and development of small businesses, with a focus on women, veteran, and minority-owned enterprises. The HUBs strategy aims to facilitate the growth and development of women, veteran, and minority-owned businesses by supporting small businesses in becoming long-term, qualified entities capable of competing and growing.
This Capital Lending Specialist serves as the primary liaison between small businesses seeking to access capital and a variety of lending institutions, including the SBA, The Business Development Company, SEED, banks, credit unions, and other community lending institutions.
The Capital Lending Specialist role is crucial for the Small Business HUB strategy, which aims to facilitate the long-term growth and success of participating small businesses. By ensuring these businesses become qualified, competitive entities, the Capital Lending Specialist contributes directly to their potential for expansion and success in a challenging marketplace.
This is an in-person position.
Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for lending institutions and small businesses looking for access to capital support under the Small Business HUB. Guide businesses through the intricacies of the lending process, from initial inquiry to successful funding.
- Assist businesses in preparing to apply for capital by evaluating their financial health, advising on improvements, and ensuring that they meet the criteria set by prospective lenders.
- Provide hands-on support to businesses during the application process, helping them navigate the complexities of loan documentation, compliance requirement, and submission procedures.
- Post-loan approval, ensure that businesses comply with loan terms, assist in the management of their financial commitments, and support ongoing financial health monitoring.
- Develop and deliver training content that aligns with the lending practices and standards of prospective lenders. Ensure that small businesses are well-prepared to meet lender expectations and requirements.
- Work closely with the HUB Director to coordinate project services and activities. This includes organization and leading training sessions, managing communications, and disseminating information related to capital access and lending.
- Manage all aspects of the access to capital division within the Small Business HUB.
- Develop a stakeholder engagement plan to cultivate and manage relationships with lending institutions.
- Design and facilitate access to capital in-person training, including outreach, project management, events, and networking.
- Prepare and guide small businesses to obtain loans by providing all the necessary preparation before engaging with a lending institution.
- Develop a program to offer coaching, mentoring, training, and other support services that will help them improve their operations and access new markets.
- Support small businesses by connecting them to incoming federal, state, and municipal grant opportunities.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase meaningful community engagement and inclusion.Increase visibility and understanding of the Small Business HUBs services.
- Coordinate and monitor effective community partner support and communication.
- Conduct informational presentations at chambers of commerce, colleges and universities, clubs, and community organizations.
- Maintain an understanding of local demographics and developments as it pertains to the Small Business HUB.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- At least five years of relevant work experience; education in areas such as business, finance, or a related field may substitute for some experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with small businesses or in financial statement analysis, including internships or other practical, hands-on experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of the lending process, including loan documentation and credit analysis.
- Demonstrated proficiency with CRM, Microsoft Excel, and other spreadsheet software.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
- Bilingual preferred.

The Capital Lending Specialist position is a grant-funded position. While not expected, should there be a substantial reduction in funding or should funding cease, this position may be eliminated by SkillsRI.
