About the Job
This position provides extensive monitoring function for all cardiac telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients and monitors a specified number of patients ordered pulse oximetry in a centralized location. This position also possesses a good knowledge of dysrhythmia interpretation and utilizes effective communication with multiple units nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.
The Monitor tech reports directly to the CCU/PCU Director.
Responsibilities:1. Ensure self-compliance with regulatory and government standards of care.
2. Holds self-accountable and responsible for work performance and continuous improvement of patient care in his/her work area and throughout hospital as related to the telemetry system.
3. Organize care and prioritize it by communicating and collaborating with others for a multidisciplinary approach to provide a continuity of care by answering all radio and telephone calls courteously, relaying accurate and timely information.
4. Performs cardiac monitoring for all telemetry and hard-wire monitored patients that are routed to the Telemetry Surveillance Unit. Visually monitors between 45 and 50 patients per station.
5. Maintains a log that indicates name of nurse and extension of his/her wireless radio assigned to each monitored patient each shift. Informs appropriate nurse of any dysrhythmia via his/her radio.
6. Properly enters and deletes patient information from the Telemetry Surveillance Center at admission, transfer and discharge.
7. Communicates hand-off shift reports on all monitored patients from the monitoring staff.
Qualifications:1. Education:
a.) High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
b.) Completion of Clinical education and Dysrhythmia course or experience in
another hospital.
c.) Graduate of Technical Education Program or Medical Assistant Program
preferred.
2. Licensure/Certification:
a.) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
(CPR) required.
3. Work Experience:
a.) Successful completion of hospital orientation.
