About Job Corps:
Job Corps is a pivotal, government-funded program designed to transform the lives of socioeconomically disadvantaged youth through comprehensive academic and vocational training. Position: Counselor
Location: 7175 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206
Type: Salaried, Exempt
Role Overview:
As a Counselor, you will play a crucial role in the personal and social development of our students. You will provide essential guidance in vocational and educational training, helping students navigate through their journey at Job Corps. This position reports to the CPP and Counseling Services Manager and is integral to our team's success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various departments to meet individual student needs effectively.
- Conduct formal and informal assessments and evaluations of students.
- Document and maintain accurate records of counseling sessions.
- Facilitate small group sessions focusing on social skills and employability.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external agencies for student development and transition.
- Participate in career management team decisions and provide input on student career transitions.
- Conduct intake interviews and monitor student attendance and performance.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 15 semester hours in Social Sciences or related areas.
- Minimum of one year experience in a counseling capacity, preferably with Job Corps experience.
- Valid State driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively relate to our student population.
- Required CPR/First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain and maintain it).
- Must be able to compose descriptive reports and implement program activities effectively.
Working Conditions and Environmental Demands:
- Primarily indoor work with occasional outdoor activities.
- Ability to handle moderate noise levels and work in varying temperature conditions.
