- Stable recovery is when an individual has been in recovery for 5+ years.
- Sustained recovery is when an individual has been in recovery for 2-5 years.
Situations such as being required to take extended absences from work or school, hospitalization or residential placement, inability to perform daily activities, negative impacts on physical wellbeing and important relationship, are all examples of life-interfering instances.
For individuals working as a family peer support specialist (FPSS), the symptoms may be in your family member, and not the peer support specialist.

Sustained recovery is a minimum job qualification for all peer support specialists at DBH. Employment may be terminated if an individual is not in sustained recovery.
