Job Summary:
As a Transportation Technician/CEI Roadway Inspector, you will lead complex construction projects, performing crucial inspection and materials sampling and testing on roadways, bridges, greenways, airports, ports, and rail transportation projects. In this mid-level or lead technician role, you will oversee other technicians, make key technical decisions, and work independently on medium-sized projects or as part of a team on larger projects. Your expertise ensures compliance and quality in every aspect of construction.
- Perform materials sampling and testing on concrete, asphalt, soil, ABC, and other construction materials, and maintain testing equipment in good working order and calibration.
- Inspect construction work, monitor erosion and sedimentation control, and ensure contractor operations comply with contracts, plans, and specifications.
- Compose daily diaries, material test reports, and document quantities of work completed and other project details.
- Coordinate inspection/testing assignments on small projects and oversee the work of lower-level technicians.
- Obtain training in new technical skills, safety protocols, and other relevant programs.
Transportation Technicians encounter diverse environmental and field challenges, such as varying weather conditions, heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, construction site hazards, and heavy machinery. They may work extended hours, including weekends and holidays. Must be capable of lifting and carrying 40-50lbs., maneuver field equipment safely, including loaded wheelbarrows, on uneven ground and around active construction sites. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided to ensure safety in these demanding environments.

Minimum Qualifications:
- One (1) of the following:
- High school diploma/GED and 0-2 years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
- 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology
- One (1) or more active industry certification:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
- Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email
