S&ME is currently seeking applicants to lead its statewide geotechnical engineering practice across Tennessee's transportation sector. As the Practice Leader, you will help grow a team of geotechnical engineers and professional staff by leading S&ME's engagement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and other consulting engineers that S&ME teams with on project pursuits, while also coordinating work being carried out under existing contracts with S&ME's transportation project partners. The position will be housed in S&ME's Nashville, Tennessee office.
A successful candidate will be a strong team player who is able to communicate and instill S&ME's culture within the geotechnical team; create an engaging and safe work environment where all staff feels secure to have a voice and participate; challenge and grow staff to reach their full potential; mentor junior staff; and demonstrate a passion for the work and our client's success. The candidate has a verifiable track record of developing clients and business with TDOT, utilizing the services offered by S&ME, and has a demonstrated ability to plan and direct geotechnical work on a wide range of transportation design projects (including Traditional and Alternative Delivery Projects) for a variety of geologic settings. Collaboration with other S&ME service lines, including Environmental and Construction Services, will be critical to the success of the position.

The Practice Leader will have the following primary responsibilities:
- Development and implementation strategy, with a programmatic approach, for the growth of the market segment
- Identify, develop, and maintain client relationships
- Identifying talent to execute strategy
- Develop new relationships and foster existing relationships with clients.
- Strong understanding of market, connections within market, knowledge of current market conditions, and ability to adjust strategy to emerging market conditions.
- Oversight in the development and delivery of quality services to clients within the practice.
- Partner with regional staff to identify upcoming business opportunities. Intimately involved with pursuits, risk management, and costing of opportunities.
- Stay apprised of emerging technologies, identifying those necessary for future competitiveness including applying processes and tools to implement cost-effective application of technologies and services.
- Perform ongoing, proactive client management activities to promote positive client experiences.
- Serve as Champion and/or Project Manager for strategic and/or critical projects or programs, as required.
- Collaborate with regional and service line leadership to identify and secure capabilities and resources to deliver the programs/opportunities/projects.
- Work with counterparts within the market sector to develop strategies for key hires, project pursuits, team growth, market sector growth and profitability, employee engagement, and satisfaction.
- Accountable for achieving the following service line KPIs: profitable growth of market segment revenue, market sector employee retention, quality/risk management audit score, and client satisfaction (Net Promoter Score).
- The Practice Leader will have individual sales, utilization, and revenue targets.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a closely related field
- Minimum of 10 years of project and program management-related experience
- Marketing and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships within the practice
- Proven track record of success winning and delivering opportunities for multiple clients within the market segment
- Commitment to quality improvement and company values
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certified
- Professional registration of PE/PG or applicable licensing
