SUMMARY:Responsible for the proper cleaning packaging sterilizationstorageand distribution of operating room supplies and patient care devices in accordance with ANSI (American National Standards Institute)/AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Equipment) IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) standards and departmental policies. Inspects and restocks crash carts and emergency supply baskets. Cleans and assembles CPR mannequins and infant car seats. Actively participates in inventory control and data entry. Performs other duties as designated.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains a safe environment for patients physicians and other surgical services staff.
Decontamination Process:
Demonstrates competency in the use of equipment that includes but is not limited to:
Hand-washing supplies
Washers including ultrasonic washer
Steam sterilizers
Sterradsterilizer
Steris sterilizer
Incubators
Drying Cabinets
Hopper
Demonstrates ability to safely utilize appropriate detergents and disinfectants.
Accurately performs chemical disinfection of appropriate supplies including mixing solutions rinsing aerating items and documentation.
Demonstrates safe and appropriate processing of all surgical instrumentation and supplies including manual and mechanical cleaning instrument inspection and lubrication.
Maintains a clean safe and orderly work area.
Demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment and other safety devices.
Demonstrates safe and appropriate processing procedures for:
OR case carts
Patient care equipment
Electronic equipment
Crash carts
Respiratory equipment
CPR mannequins
Infant car seats
Assembly and Packaging of Instruments
Demonstrates competency in sorting inspecting and assembling instrument sets using set cards and count sheets.
Demonstrates competency in the packaging and labeling of instruments utilizing appropriate materials and technique.
Demonstrates competency in assembling respiratory therapy equipment.
Sterilization Processes-
Accurately performs and documents appropriate monitoring of sterilization processes including mechanical chemical and biological monitors.
Safely and accurately operates a variety of sterilization equipment including but not limited to:
Steam sterilizers including immediate use sterilizers
Sterradsterilizer
Aeration cabinets
Labels and records items sterilized and monitoring results.
Distribution of Sterile Supplies and Equipment
Accurately prepares total case carts for surgical procedures:
Utilizing and maintaining DPC�s (Doctors Preference Cards)
Completing case carts in a timely manner
Identifying and communicating unresolved problems
Rapidly and efficiently responding to emergency and/or added cases and immediate needs of the surgical team.
Accurately and efficiently distributes supplies to other hospital departments and remote offices via:
Pneumatic tube
Closed cart delivery
Hospital courier
Knowledge of ANSI/AAMI (American National Standards Institute/Association for the Advancement of Medical Equipment) and IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) principles of sterility disinfection and contamination.
Demonstrates safe and appropriate application of infection control policies and procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization indicators product expiration dates and other product quality indicators.
Maintains a positive professional relationship with peers patients patient families/care-givers and other colleagues.
Assists in the optimum utilization of resources:
Inventories supplies
Orders supplies in a cost-efficient manner
Rotates supplies so that those with an early expiration date are used first
Restock inventory and maintain inventory cards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma (or equivalent).
Computer data entry skills.
Comparable Central Sterile supply experience preferred.
Must have CRCST through HSPA (or its equivalent through CBSPD) within 12months
Maintains current CPR certification.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit stand squat/kneel walk for 3-7 hours per day lift over 50lbs with good mechanics twist/bend infrequently. Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform work that deviates from neutralposition andbe able to perform fine motor skills. Must have accurate near and far vision depth perception and discriminate among colors.
