Responsibilities:The diagnostic medical Sonographer with fetal echo certification provides diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. The diagnostic medical Sonographer works independently and with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women.
- Escorts patient and family to and from examination room.
- Explains exam to patient and family prior to the commencement of the test to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
- Acquires anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
- Maintains patient charts and records, and records/processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure for presentation to the interpreting physician.
- Creates a preliminary report for physician review/signature.
- Reviews studies with physicians.
- Assists physician with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
- Codes appropriate for services performed.
- Maintains proper operation of the ultrasound equipment.
- Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action.
- Maintains laundry for examination rooms.
- Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
- Follows the accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two-dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m-mode where applicable.
- Follows and complies with universal precautions and OSHA standards.
- Follows and complies with safety and security training.
- Rotates as needed to cover Sonographer absences.
- Performs related and other assigned duties as directed.
- Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
- ARDMS OB/GYN certified
- Fetal echo certification
- Participates in staff development, in-service workshops, and educational activities. Participates in professional development activities and meetings.
- Completion of a program containing OB/GYN ultrasonography.
- CPR certification required.
- Satisfactory completion of one of the following; at least two (2) years in Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year on-the-job- training in ultrasonography, or completion of an approved ultrasonography educational program.
- Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS).
- Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
