Job Description
Reporting to the Assisted Living Nurse Manager, the Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) provides total care or helps residents by supporting personal hygiene and daily living needs and providing comfort. The CHHA assists clients, maintains clients’ physical and emotional comfort, and promotes clients' safety and progress toward more independent living.
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, current licensure as a Certified Home Health Aide in good standing with the New Jersey Department of Consumer affairs Nursing Assistant training, and experience working with a senior population in an Assisted Living or Independent Living environment. Candidates must follow the dietary laws for providing a Kosher environment and have a genuine desire to help others.
Responsibilities
- Performs all personal care as assigned and in accordance with the facility’s nursing department policies and procedure, which includes helping clients with tub bath or shower, dental, hair and nail care, shaving, dressing, undressing, application of makeup, and other aspects of personal grooming
- Assists clients to ambulate; to transfer in and out of bed, chairs, wheelchairs and automobiles; and to walk to the toilet and transfer on and off the toilet
- Assists clients with elimination needs
- Makes clients beds, sets room in order, and assists and encourages residents with self-help measures and activities
- Takes and records temperatures/vital signs
- Maintains client body positioning and alignment both in and out of bed, performing passive range of motion exercises and teaching the client to perform active range of motion exercise
- Assists with meals as needed and preparation of simple light meals for breakfast or lunch, opens containers and cuts foods, and provides personal care to clients after meals
- Applies aseptic technique in all care to prevent spread of disease and infection
- Observes and reports physical and/or behavioral changes in clients immediately to the nurse
- Recognizes emergencies and follows emergency protocol
- Prepares clients for tests/x-rays, physician/dentist visits, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, activities, and visits to other areas of the facility
- Performs personal services for clients within reason such as: reading to them, writing letters for them, operating TV/radio, helping with recreational and occupational therapy projects in their apartments; light housekeeping; keeping clients immediate area neat, clean, and tidy; and doing errands but not driving the clients
- Participates and may facilitate individual or group activities for cognitively impaired residents as directed or needed
- Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current licensure as a Certified Home Health Aide in good standing with New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs
- Experience working with senior population in an Assisted Living environment or Independent Living
