Job Summary and Qualifications
The Clinical Professional Development Educator enhances professional practice and the provision of quality patient care by providing evidence-based quality educational programs and activities that promote professional aptitude for nursing, inter-professional, and non-licensed clinical staff at the assigned facility.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is an expert in the management of the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad. S/he is coach, consultant, teacher, and lactation expert. As a consultant, s/he works collaboratively with Labor and Delivery, Newborn and Neonatal Intensive Care Nurseries, Pediatricians, OBs, Family Practice health care teams to develop feeding plans for a range of infants from the normal newborn to the complex neonate. S/he makes clinical assessments, and uses current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the physician’s and family’s breastfeeding goals. S/he ismay also be responsible for teaching prenatal classes in coordination with the Lead Lactation consultant and leadership.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Skills
Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred.
BSN will be required within 3 years of employment.
Professional Nursing Organization membership encouraged
Experience
Minimum of one yearexperience in lactation preferred.
Licenses, Registrations and/or Certifications
Registered Nurse license eligible to practice in the State of Texas required
Current BLS issued from HCA approved vendor required
IBCLC certification required within 1 year of hire if not achieved at time of hire
Certified in Breastfeeding education if doesn’t have IBCLC or hours of breastfeeding education, proof must be provided
NRP issued from HCA approved vendor required
