Responsibilities:
Des Moines Cardiology is seeking a detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant or LPN with experience in prior authorizations to join our team. This role involves coordinating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to ensure timely and accurate processing of prior authorizations for medical procedures, medications, and treatments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and a thorough approach to documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and complete the prior authorization process for diagnostic tests, procedures, medications, and other healthcare services for all 3 clinic locations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to gather necessary medical documentation and submit prior authorization requests to insurance companies.
- Follow up with insurance providers and patients regarding the status of prior authorizations, ensuring approvals are obtained before services are rendered.
- Track and document all authorizations, approvals, and denials in the clinic’s electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Communicate effectively with patients about the prior authorization process, including any potential delays or required actions on their part.
- Review denial letters and work with healthcare providers to appeal denials or submit additional documentation as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, formularies, and procedures to ensure accurate submissions.
- Assist with other administrative and clinical duties as needed, such as patient scheduling, taking vitals, or preparing charts.
- Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification required OR Current LPN license, State of Iowa.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and medical office software.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment and prioritize tasks.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / Mandatory Reporter.
