JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant of Mobile Wounds functions under the direction of the Practice Manager and Nurse Practitioner. Recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance. Provides care for the patient under the physician or NP’s direction. Includes preparing patients for wound procedures primarily in patient’s home residence, skilled nursing facilities, and the clinic, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care and recording treatment in the electronic medical record. Helps with patient/family education. Demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages including the adult and geriatric populations. This position is a travel position where wound patients are primarily seen outside of the clinic. This position requires the Medical Assistant to operate a company vehicle and extensive driving is involved. Performs other duties as necessary.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a Certified Medical Assistant program.
Required Minimum Experience: Two years of medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting preferably with wound care.
Required Minimum Skills: Current BCLS certification. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving history. Must be organized and attentive to detail. Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction. Able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language. Knowledge of basic office skills and operation of office equipment including but not limited to typing, copier, fax machine, computer and computer software (ie, Microsoft Office). Interpersonal skills, customer service skills, and a positive attitude required. Must have knowledge of medical terminology.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee is frequently required to use hands and arms to reach forward and push or pull patients and/or objects. The employee is required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally move 100 pounds. The employee must be able to sit and drive in a vehicle for extended periods of time.
This job may pose the potential of occupational exposure. Regular job tasks do not involve exposure, but the employee may have potential exposure in some tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES, ROLES, AND FUNCTIONS:
Wound Care Visit
Obtain Vital signs to include blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight where possible.
Assist with positioning the patient for treatment, prep and drape the field for amniotic allograft placement.
Assist with dressing changes.
Assist with wound debridement in coordination with the provider to include requested tools and supplies for all wound procedures.
Clean all supplies and package used tools and supplies for disposal.
Wound Travel and Professional Driving:
The Medical assistant will operate the company vehicle obeying all traffic laws and posted speed limits and adhere to Restore First Health’s policy on Operating the Company Vehicle.
The Wound Medical Assistant will pre-gas and clean the outside daily and the interior weekly, or as needed.
Based on patient census, pack the vehicle with the necessary medical supplies and communicate with the wound team projected departure times the night prior along with estimated arrival times (ETA) to the office the day of the visit.
Uses a hands-free environment when operating the company vehicle. Prioritizes work calls and texts and determine whether they can wait until the vehicle is stopped and keeps personal calls and texts to emergency use only.
Wound Supplies:
Manage wound documentation and supply per patient need.
Inventory and replenish all wound supplies in coordination with the Practice Manager and Provider daily.
Assist with completion of WCR orders in collaboration with the provider.
Pack and replenish wound “go bags” with supplies in anticipation of patients to be seen for the day/week.
Wound Care Coordination and Scheduling:
Work with Practice Manager to manage daily wound visits and consultation schedules while optimizing driving routes.
Call patients the day prior and while enroute to confirm appointments and approximate arrival times.
Manage wound visit schedule in the EMR.
Responsible for care coordination with patient’s PCP, specialists, home health services for orders traffic, and obtaining necessary documentation and records.
Obtain general understanding of wound orders with regards to dressing type requirements.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $24.00
