INVO is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant for a school program in Old Forge PA. The CNA assists the school nurse in providing basic medical care, monitoring student health, and ensuring a safe and healthy school environment. This role involves daily interaction with students, staff, and parents, requiring strong communication skills, compassion, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Health Care:
- Assist the school nurse in providing direct care to students, including basic first aid, monitoring vital signs, and administering medications under the nurse's supervision.
- Assist students with daily activities such as toileting, feeding, mobility, and personal hygiene, as needed.
- Provide care for students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma) by following care plans and reporting any concerns to the school nurse.
- Monitor students for signs of illness or injury and report findings to the school nurse.
- Health and Safety Monitoring:
- Help maintain a safe and clean environment in the school health office and other areas where care is provided.
- Assist in the implementation of health and safety protocols, including infection control measures.
- Participate in health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing) and other school-wide health initiatives.
- Assist in emergency situations by providing first aid and supporting the school nurse in crisis response.
- Record-Keeping and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of student care, including daily logs, medication administration records, and incident reports.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date student health records and ensuring confidentiality.
- Support the school nurse in preparing reports and other documentation as required.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and healthcare providers regarding student health and wellness.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other staff to support students with health needs.
- Provide health education to students and staff as directed by the school nurse.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions to stay informed about school health policies and procedures.
- Support for Students with Special Needs:
- Assist students with special needs, including those with physical disabilities, by providing necessary care and support throughout the school day.
- Follow individualized health care plans (IHCPs) and collaborate with special education staff to ensure students' needs are met.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification: Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Pennsylvania required.
- Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly working with children or in a school environment, is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate and patient with the ability to work effectively with children.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow healthcare protocols.
- Basic knowledge of first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the school for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and assist students with mobility as needed.
- Ability to respond quickly to health emergencies.
