JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:          Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Department:     Nursing

Reports to:       Resident Care Supervisor, Director of Nursing,

Status:              Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Certified Nursing Assistant at McKnight Place Extended care is responsible for ensuring the quality care of residents by providing nursing care and by assisting Charge Nurses as necessary. The Certified Nursing Assistant also represents McKnight Place Extended Care to residents, their guests, families and the community. Each employee makes a significant contribution to our success in fulfilling our mission to safely provide the highest quality services, programs and facilities possible to enhance the quality of life for each resident, each and every day.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIES

The essential duties and responsibilities described below are representative, but not necessarily all-inclusive, of the position:

1. Provide direct care to assigned residents, including activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, oral hygiene, etc.)
2. Maintain communication between nursing personnel.
3. Assist residents with walking/transportation and transfers as requested. Gait belts are to be worn or carried and used when necessary.
4. Promote resident independence
5. Perform basic nursing skills at direction of the Charge Nurse and Resident Care Supervisor or Charge Nurse
6. Notify charge nurse of changes in resident condition, mental status, skin status, appetite, and activity of daily living ability or any unusual behavior of resident.
7. Follows policies and procedures as set by the Director of Nursing and Resident Care Supervisor in all areas of duties, as outlined in the employee Handbook.
8. Identify emergency situations and initiate appropriate procedures.
9. Reports maintenance and safety items to the Director of Maintenance, Director of Nursing and Resident Care supervisor or to the MOD if on the weekend.
10. Document task in electronic Health Record in timely manner.
11. Maintain cleanliness of work spaces.
12. Team work in taking care of all residents.
13. Performs other duties as required or assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

JOB REQUIREMENTS

1.       Positive disposition with residents and other staff.

2.       Frequently speaking, smelling, walking, standing, pushing and pulling items up to 80lbs. or more, assisting residents with walking or pushing wheelchairs, consulting, planning, and documenting.

3.       Occasionally sitting, climbing, and lifting items up to 50lbs, bending and organizing.

4.       Adequate hearing and vision.

5.       Constantly understanding and compliance with instruction and policies.

6.       Constantly working in inside conditions, with chemicals and equipment.

7.       Occasionally working with fumes, odor and dust.

8.       Constantly working alone and occasionally with others.
