About the Job
The primary purpose of your job is to provide routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident's assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your Charge Nurse.
CNA Duties and Responsibilities
- Routine Nursing Care
- Participates in and receives report upon arrival for duty.
- Makes rounds on residents every two hours to ensure that needs are met.
- Assists residents with personal care and activities of daily living as needed.
- Turns and repositions residents in bed and in chairs at designated intervals. Observes and promptly reports any changes in residents' condition to the Charge Nurse.
- Answers calls from residents promptly and courteously. Responds to families in courteous manner.
- Performs restorative nursing tasks as instructed
- Assists residents to prepare for meals (i.e., take to bathroom, wash hands, place clothing ·g protector on.) Serves food trays. Assist with feeding (i.e., Cut foods, feed, and dining room supervision.)
- Records residents' food and fluid intake. Reports changes in eating habits.
- Keeps bedside water pitchers clean, filled with fresh water each shift and within easy reach.
- Serves between meals and after meal snacks.
- Reports all changes in resident's condition to the nurse as soon as possible.
- Records entries on all required flow sheets, as necessary.
- Reports all accidents and incidents promptly.
- Reports all complaints and concerns made by the resident.
- Accompanies residents to activities, social programs, etc.
- Assists with the care of the dying resident.
- Provides post-mortem care as instructed.
Dining Services
- Prepares residents for meals (i.e., take to bathroom, wash hands, place clothing protector on.)
- Serves food trays. Assist with feeding (i.e., Cut foods, feed, dining room supervision.)
- Identifies hot and cold food and food arrangements for residents with sight problems.
- Records residents food and fluid intake. Reports changes in eating habits.
- Keeps water pitchers clean, filled with fresh water each shift and within easy reach.
- Serves between meals and after meal snacks.
- Performs after meal care. (Remove trays, clean hands, faces, take to bathroom, etc.)
- Check rooms for food articles (i.e., food stored in proper containers, etc.)
Admission, Transfer, Discharge Responsibilities
- Ensures that resident's room is ready for receiving the resident.
- Greets resident and escorts him/her tot room.
- Introduces resident to roommate if any, or other residents and personnel.
- Inventories and marks residents' personal belongings on admission.
- Assists resident with packing and unpacking during room transfer or when discharged.
Maintaining Residents Rights
- Maintains confidentiality of all resident care information.
- Maintains treats all residents fairly, with dignity, and respect.
- Assures resident's privacy in accord with resident's and / or family wishes and in compliance with regulatory guidelines
- Reports allegations of resident abuse and /or misappropriation of resident's property immediately.
- Honors residents refusal of treatment request and reports such refusals to the nurse
Personnel Functions
- Performs all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Follows all work assignments /schedules in completing and performing assigned tasks.
- Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, positive emphasis.
- Notifies facility in accord with defined time frames of need to be tardy or absent from work.
- Reports occupational exposures to blood, body flu ids, and infectious materials immediately.
- Reports all complaints and grievances made by the resident.
- Follows the code of ethics and conduct in accordance to The Methodist Horne of DC.
Staff Development
- Attends and participates in in-services and educational classes to maintain certification.
- Attends and participates in scheduled orientation programs and activities.
- Follows University Precautions to encourage infection control.
- Reports all safety violations to appropriate disciplines.
- Follows all safety precautions in performing duties.
- Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies
- Use only equipment you have been trained to use. Report defective equipment.
Performs Other Duties as Assigned
Working Conditions
- Works throughout the nursing services area as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Moves intermittently during working hours and is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is subject to emotionally upset residents, family members, and visitors.
- Works beyond normal hours if necessary.
- Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (evacuation, severe weather.)
