Pay and Schedule

• $22 -$28 hourly. Experience Compensated
• Full time - daytime hours

Job Summary:

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide rehabilitative services to individuals with physical, emotional, or developmental impairments. The COTA assists in the implementation of treatment plans designed to help patients achieve their maximum potential and improve their quality of life.

Essential Functions:

Treatment Implementation:

• Assist in carrying out treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist.
• Utilize therapeutic techniques and interventions to promote patient independence and functional abilities.
• Monitor and document patient progress, making adjustments to treatment as necessary.

Patient Care:

• Provide direct patient care, including therapeutic exercises, activities of daily living (ADLs) training, and functional mobility exercises.
• Educate patients and their families about the therapeutic process and techniques to continue progress at home.
• Ensure patient comfort and safety during therapy sessions.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Participate in team meetings and case conferences to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
• Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and team members.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Accurately document patient treatment sessions, progress notes, and any changes in patient status.
• Prepare reports and summaries as required by the Occupational Therapist or facility.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and facility documentation requirements.

Equipment and Environment Management:

• Assist in maintaining therapy equipment and treatment areas.
• Ensure that therapy materials are clean, organized, and in good working condition.
• Adhere to safety protocols and infection control procedures.

Professional Development:

• Stay current with industry standards and best practices in occupational therapy.
• Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
• Maintain certification and licensure requirements as mandated by state and professional boards.

Physical Demands:

The role requires physical activity, including lifting, bending, and assisting patients with movement. Must be able to lift and move patients and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Certification: Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Licensure: Valid state licensure or registration as required by state law

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
