Position Summary:
As the Chairperson you will direct and inspire excellence in a group of 11 subspecialty-trained pathologists in a multi-site hospital system. The Chair will represent the entire Pathology department at the Medical Staff level and will work closely with the health system administration for the improvement of quality pathology care. You will also serve as the primary laboratory Medical Director with overall responsibility for the function, certification, and licensure of the laboratory.
This is a leadership position within the Medical Department working full time at a multi-site health care system. Time will be split between clinical case work and administrative duties.
Responsibilities:
- Identify potential threats to the organization's operations, including natural disasters, cyber Provide professional pathology services for both anatomic and clinical pathology
- Develop a robust quality management program for both anatomic and clinical pathology laboratory sections
- Work closely with clinical and administrative staff at the Hospital Client as well as leadership to ensure the highest standards of TAT, quality, and customer service are maintained
- Provide medical direction and final approval for new method validations, equipment purchase and utilization, and test selection
- Provide/delegate assistance with chemistry, blood bank, microbiology, and hematology concerns, such as clinical consultations, write up of blood bank reactions, and general pathology support of technical laboratory staff
- Provide/delegate support for transfusion with regard to complicated cases and trauma
- Attend monthly Lab Leadership and Quality meetings
- Participate as a member of committees and process improvement initiatives involving lab services
Experience & Required Qualifications:
- M.D. or D.O degree and board certification/eligibility Anatomic and Clinical Pathology are required. Additional fellowship training is encouraged2 years’ experience in dedicated risk management role required
- MD or DO degree plus accredited pathology residency
- Must be board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology
- 5 or more years post residency clinical work experience required
- Previous leadership experience strongly preferred
- Must hold valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in FL or be eligible to obtain licensure
- Strong customer focus and understanding of hospital/laboratory operations
- Ability to communicate with decision makers in the hospitals, laboratories, and Company
