Position Summary:
The Charge Nurse (RN or LPN) is responsible for the overall nursing care and services provided in their assigned shift and location, including the accurate and timely administration of medications, treatments, documentation, and handling of emergency situations. Demonstrates knowledge of and delivers care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the State in which employed.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Supervises direct care of residents and nursing personnel on their assigned shifts.
Coordinates daily administrative duties, including schedules, nursing assignments, and patient care.
Oversees resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Monitors medical charts and provides compassionate care and assistance to patients and families.
Acts as a liaison to doctors, families, and administrators regarding changes in resident condition.
Communicates protocol changes to staff.
Ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations.
Records and maintains accurate reports.
Identifies issues or emergencies and responds in a calm and efficient manner.
Administers direct nursing care when more than routine care is indicated.
Makes routine rounds to maintain proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.
Oversees the accuracy and completion of clinical documentation per FV policy and State/Federal regulations.
Gives and receives shift reports.
Assists in developing comprehensive care plans.
Participates in family/resident counseling.
Assures effective communication with all shifts and departments regarding resident care.
Effectively communicates policies, expected outcomes, efficient work routines, and procedures to the nursing staff.
Provide specific orientation to nursing staff, including completion of the clinical skills checklist, EMR, and other FV systems.
Evaluates team effectiveness and efficiency in conjunction with nursing leadership.
Monitors staff compliance with infection control, personal protection equipment, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous material handling, and fire safety.
Assures proper equipment functioning and that nursing staff have the necessary supplies and resources.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
As needed, assists in performing supervisory activities necessary for effective department management, including selecting and developing employees, counseling and motivating employees, taking disciplinary action, and evaluating the work performed within the department.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Nurse Manager
Supervises: Assigned Nursing Staff
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Active applicable state license.
Six months’ experience in senior care preferred.
Geriatric/rehabilitation experience with a good understanding of restorative nursing.
Thorough knowledge of best nursing practices, state and federal regulations.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrates the highest level of customer service and response.
Ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
Work collaboratively in a team environment that promotes inclusiveness and communication among team members.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Applicable license required.
CPR certification required.

Frequently able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as taking vital signs, writing, and using a keyboard.
Frequently able to use different visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating residents/patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens.
Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate infection or other problems with a resident or environmental issues such as smoke.
