Job Summary:
The Chemical Milling Operator is responsible for performing chemical etching and milling processes on aerospace components. This role involves operating and maintaining equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring that products meet stringent aerospace industry standards. The position requires a high degree of attention to detail and a commitment to quality control in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities:
- Chemical Milling Operations:
- Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, masking, and preparing parts for chemical milling.
- Immerse parts in chemical baths for etching or milling based on provided blueprints and specifications.
- Monitor chemical concentrations, temperature, and exposure time to ensure process control.
- Rinse and dry parts to remove chemical residue and prevent contamination.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Operate milling tanks, chemical baths, and associated machinery safely and efficiently.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, escalating to maintenance as necessary.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect parts for conformity to specifications, using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and visual inspection.
- Document and record measurements, and communicate non-conformances to supervisors.
- Maintain strict adherence to aerospace quality standards and guidelines.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols for handling chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure compliance with all OSHA and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, promptly reporting spills or safety hazards.
- Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate logs of chemical usage, process steps, and completed work.
- Ensure proper documentation of part numbers, batch information, and inspection results.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training in chemical processing or machining is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in chemical milling, etching, or a related field in aerospace manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Knowledge of chemical handling and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing standards and quality systems (AS9100).
- Ability to operate and maintain milling equipment.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in an environment with exposure to chemicals, heat, and noise.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and safety goggles.
Working Conditions:
- This position operates in a chemical processing area within an aerospace manufacturing facility.
- The employee may be exposed to fumes, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
