The Production Operator follows established procedures to manufacture chemical intermediates and finished products. The Operator follows procedures that are set forth in the form of batch records and work instructions. This person completes a variety of duties: in addition to operating chemical processes, the employee may perform setup, cleaning of equipment, waste disposal, emergency response, warehouse activities, maintenance, and clean-up activities needed to facilitate general operations and regulatory compliance.
Operators are given extensive safety and Operator-specific training before they are assigned process work. After the initial training period, Production employees work 12-hour shifts with alternating days off, and rotate between night and day shifts every 12 weeks. Operators are paid a shift differential when working night shift. Operators are required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as per the shift schedule which is published in advance.

Job Responsibilities
- Uses protective equipment (PPE) as needed to prevent exposure to dangerous chemicals
- Follows established procedures as described by Batch Records, GEN’s and Work Instructions and OPI’s to manufacture chemical intermediates and finished products
- Follows established procedures as described by SOP’s and other operating procedures to maintain a safe working environment that complies with safety and environmental rules and regulations
- Transfers raw materials, finished products, wastewater, waste solvents, and other wastes between tanks, drums, and shipping containers using pumps, pressure and other equipment; handles solid chemicals as chemical intermediates, products and waste
- Labels hazardous waste containers as appropriate to maintain compliance with labeling regulations and times
- Maintains records necessary to record process conditions as defined by procedures and as required in certain circumstances
- Maintains the production area(s) in a clean and orderly condition
- Performs yard and building cleanup as needed
- Performs shipping, packaging and receiving activities as needed
- Assists the Production Supervisor in record keeping with daily shift report, inventory sheets, tanker logs, and other documentation
- Uses company computer/handheld devices to enter records and documents
- Attends training as designated to facilitate above knowledge and to maintain required updates
- Must be able to work in confined spaces
- Must be able to use a respirator/supplied air when needed (Boulder Scientific provides the training) and follow OSHA, safety, and written guidelines
- Handles drums, buckets, and other containers of hazardous and non-hazardous materials as products or waste. Some but not all of these activities including:
- Combining partial drums to ensure all waste drums 90% full for shipping
- Handling (scooping, shoveling, bucketing) wastes as needed
- Repackaging wastes for shipment to drum disposal facilities
- Cleaning drums for shipment to drum disposal facilities
- Pumping wastes to tankers as needed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must pass a basic math and reading assessment
Experience
- Prefer experience in construction, manufacturing, or oil & gas industries
- Prefer experience working 12 hours and graveyard shifts
- Prefer experience in a job that is indoor/outdoor and requires physical labor
- Forklift Certification – training provided after hire by Boulder Scientific Company
- Operator Introductory Training – training provided after hire by Boulder Scientific Company
- Entry-level chemical production experience is helpful
- Must be able to pass a job-related physical
Working Conditions
The job requires frequent work outside in all weather for short periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. We regularly and safely work with and around volatile, reactive, and potentially hazardous chemicals as part of our normal day-to-day operations. Our Engineering controls and Administrative controls are layers of protection that keep our employees safe. Additionally, we provide our employees with the proper PPE, including a respirator, to keep them safe, which they are required to wear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally push, roll and/or move up to 100 pounds.
