About the Job
A Chemist I provides daily operation to established methods, ensuring quality compliance to the protocol. They have overall responsibility for the technical conduct of all assigned tests as well as for the analysis, documentation, and reporting of results. They are the single point of study control. They exhibit intermediate analytical instrument and/ or software knowledge for assigned tests and assist the section with troubleshooting as needed.
Education and experience requirements:
B.S. Degree (Chemistry or related) and two years of analytical instrumentation (either GC/MS, LC/MS, or other applicable instrumentation) experience required
Or
A.A/A.S. Degree (Chemistry or related) and four years related laboratory experience with demonstrated proficiency for test coordination and analytical instrumentation (GC/MS or LC/MS)
Preferred experience:
1+ yrs experience with structural elucidation
Essential Duties:
Scientific/General
- Ensure procedures and reports are current with company procedures
- Sample prep for organic analysis
- Ensure final reports accurately reflect the data, results and conclusions of the testing
- Evaluates test results for suitability and designates acceptability
- Ensure sample and data traceability are maintained throughout testing
- Ensure calculations and statistics accurately reflect the raw data
- Ensure test controls and monitors are accurately recorded and reviewed
- Maintain and operate assigned analytical instruments
- Assists with troubleshooting analytical instrumentation problems and assists in the best course of action to remedy those problems.
- Reviews general data quality to determine where changes to methods or procedures could improve quality and throughput
- Mentor more junior staff or new employees
Customer Focus
- Assists with questions from sales, service center, quality, and regulatory teams.
- Continually learn and train, review scientific literature, and attend meetings to keep current with new technical and scientific information
Project Management
- Work with department leadership in managing test workflow to ensure sponsor expectations are met.
- Meet turn around deadlines.
- Work with Lab Analysts to organize daily workflow.
Regulatory Compliance
- Reviews general data quality to determine where changes to methods or procedures could improve quality and throughput
- Know and follow applicable regulatory requirements (GMP, GLP, ISO 17025, 9001, and 10993, etc.)
- Know and follow company policies and procedures
- Complete required training on time
Professionalism
- Attend work regularly and reliably
- Perform training for new and existing employees
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and lab equipment including but not limited to computers, phones, micropipettes and various hand tools and analytical equipment.
Possibility exists for handling biological and chemical hazards, carcinogenic compounds and other environmental aspects which may be considered unfavorable. Employees are expected to follow Biosafety and Chemical Hygiene policies, practices and procedures.
Physical requirements:
The physical demands described here are a representative of those that must be met to perform the essential job functions.
- Required to stand and traverse 50% of the day to various office and lab locations and 50% of the day working at a computer.
- Bending, stooping, crouching, crawli
ng and climbing.
- Ability to have full body movement required.
- Occasional push and pull tasks with one or both hands.
- Must be able to work while wearing personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, goggles, face shields, gloves, lab coats and personal protective equipment deemed necessary to protect testing and to protect employee from various solutions, wastes, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
