Philadelphia, PA 19107-5211
About the Job
The Chief for the division of dementia and cognitive disorders is responsible for all aspects of the division including clinical care, administration, research and education in the Department of Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University. As the division is less than 5 years old, we are in a growth phase with the long-term goals of being recognized as the regional leader for the diagnosis and management of individuals with cognitive impairment.
The clinical cognitive disorders program is comprehensive and uses state of the art diagnostics. Personnel include needs assessment and a clinical care personnel. The division has several part time neurologists, two neuropsychologists and a number of relationships with other departments. The division chief oversees division personnel as needed for clinical growth.
Our research program has a tissue banking program which aims to provide blood and CSF to intramural and extramural basic science research programs. We are also a research center of excellence (RCOE) for the LBDA. We also welcome clinical research projects that include trainees. The division chief participates in soliciting and maintaining projects, and in mentoring trainees in research aspects of cognition.
The education program includes a monthly neurocognitive conference which is attended by residents, medical students and faculty from the division. Additionally, trainees rotate through the outpatient clinics. We desire to add a cognitive fellowship in the future.
The administrative role is to make sure that all aspects of the program grow towards our goals of: 1) being recognized as a regional resource for cognitively impaired patients, and 2) becoming a nationally recognized as center of excellence for cognitive disorders. We have been able to secure a multi-million dollar gift to support the development of the cognitive disorders center. The new division director will be expected to continue to work with the Office of Institutional Advancement to help secure additional philanthropic support as the program grows.
