THE ROLE

The Chief Medical Officer has the executive responsibility for managing the Hospital's support functions for Medical Staff responsibilities. This position is intended to be a full-time administrative position. The principal responsibilities will be to provide leadership to and facilitate the activities of Medical Staff Services, Quality & Case Management, Risk Management, Medical Records and Medical Education. The individual will assume a facilitative role to assist the Chief of Staff, its officers, and department chairmen in carrying out their responsibilities. This role will serve as an advocate for the medical staff, while concurrently serving as a key member of the Executive Management Team, helping to further build relationships between the hospital and its medical staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Provide leadership direction for the Medical Staff and develops/implements strategic plan to achieve the goals of the function.
2. Provide leadership direction and supervision of the Medical Staff Office and other functional areas as assigned.
3. Provide support to the Chief Executive in carrying out their responsibilities.
4. Serve in an advisory and communication role to the Chief Executive on medical-administrative matters.
5. Provide leadership to the clinical quality enhancement function of the Hospital.
6. Facilitate communication and coordination of the Hospital’s professional departments.
7. Be attentive to the needs and requests of the Medical Staff.
8. Facilitate the cooperation and communication of the Medical Staff departments and the nursing division.
9. Search for opportunities to improve clinical integration.
10. Lead Quality initiatives to improve the quality of our providers.
11. Report to and receive formal authority from the Chief Executive.
12. Report monthly to the Medical Executive Committee on matters of interest to the Medical Staff.
13. Serve as an Ex-officio non-voting member of the Medical Executive Committee, Quality Improvement and Credentials committees.
14. Understand the strategic relationship with Cedar Sinai.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. M.D. and Board eligibility training in a major specialty.
2. Experience as a Chief Medical Officer/Vice President Medical Affairs (preferred).
3. California Physician and Surgeon A License (Vendor Managed); or California Physician and Surgeon C License (Vendor Managed); or California Physician and Surgeon G License (Vendor Managed).
4. Working knowledge of information systems essential to efficient operations and to quality improvement.
5. Understanding of the dynamics of managed care and its effects on all stakeholders.
6. Able to develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with the medical staff, Board of Trustees and management.
7. Able to motivate and assist medical staff leadership to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role.
