About the Job
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience in psychiatry, including one (1) year in a supervisory, administrative, or consultative capacity; and completion of a residency or training program in psychiatry which meets the certification requirements of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.
- Possession of a license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the State Board of Medical Education and Licensure, or the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners.
- Basic computer skills to include, but not limited, to Microsoft Office Products.
Role Description:
Requirements for psychiatric or psychological services are required as follows:
Psychiatric Services:
Behavioral consults Seven (7) Calendar day notice
1. Monday thru Friday 7:00 am to 7:00 pm psychiatric examinations, behavior modification evaluation, psychotropic medication reviews for dosage reductions and psychiatry consultative services on site. Recommendations concerning medications, dosage changes, treatment programs, diagnosis and non-restraint medications or interventions must be documented on the facility consult form. Provide evaluations, management, diagnosis and treatment of disease or aberration.
2. Treatment, including emergency services.
3. Provide psychiatric examinations in accordance with existing Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (GMVC) and Veterans Administration regulations (and other regulations applicable to licensure as cited in PA regulations, as set forth by Department of Health and Human services.) Have experience with the new PA Department of Health regulations for nursing homes regarding anti-psychotic and anti-xiolytic drugs.
4. The consultant/physician personnel for on-site service will sign-in and sign-out each for each visit Will also need a GMVC Picture ID and have the ADON or designee follow on visit in the facility
5. Physicians will, on request, attend various including Crisis Management and Pharmacological meetings up to a maximum 20 hours per week at the discretion of the Commandant of Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center.
6. Maintain a current license to practice psychiatry in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition, proof of current licensure with expiration date, NPI, DEA number if appropriate, and proof of mandated continuing educations must be provided to the facility prior to assignment. Psychiatrists must be board certified or board eligible. GMVC’s commandant or his/her designated representative must approve all of the contractor’s personnel assigned to GMVC.
7. Maintain professional liability and malpractice insurance, and provide proof to GMVC. Vendor will present proof for all staff assigned to GMVC of having received an intermediate PPD within the past 90 days. Any person with a known history of having a positive PPD will be evaluated by a physician at GMVC before being permitted to work at the facility. In addition to above mandated screenings, the vendor shall provide a current criminal background check for all staff assigned to GMVC.
8. Have experience with the new PA Department of Health regulations for nursing homes regarding anti-psychotic and anti-xiolytic drugs.
9. Provide professional psychiatric examinations, behavior modification evaluation, psychotropic medication reviews for dosage reductions and psychiatry/psychology consultative services on site or via telemedicine. Recommendations concerning medications, dosage changes, treatment programs, diagnosis and non-restraint medications or interventions must be documented on the facility consult form. The recommendations contained on the consultation form must be faxed to GMVC within 24 hours of visit. Recommendations for emergency cases must be recorded at the time of the visit.
10. Coordinate the scheduling of residents requiring the services and treatment plans with facility staff.
11. The vendor will submit a monthly invoice to the GMVC Accounting Office along with a log listing the residents seen, the dates services were provided and services rendered.

1. Initial psychiatrist consultation
2. Follow-up psychiatrist consultation
3. Initial psychologist behavioral evaluation
4. Follow-up psychologist behavioral evaluation
5. Initial psychiatrist patient and drug evaluation
6. Follow-up psychiatrist patient and drug evaluation
7. Other services requested by GMVC, including in-service, crisis intervention, administrative meetings – as needed.
