Position: Chief of Schools (CoS)
Reports to: CEO
Job Summary:
The Chief of Schools (CoS) at Milwaukee College Prep (MCP) is responsible for overseeing the cultural and operational excellence across all MCP campuses, working in tandem with the Chief Academic Officer (CAO). This role focuses on driving a positive school culture, operational efficiency, and ensuring the implementation of MCP’s vision and values. The CoS will work collaboratively with the CAO to support academic excellence, provide leadership development, and foster character growth in students. This position requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in educational leadership, strong organizational skills, and the ability to inspire and support staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Vision:
- Collaborate with the CEO, CAO, and other executive leaders to set and achieve strategic goals for the network.
- Provide visionary leadership in the development and implementation of cultural and operational initiatives.
- Ensure alignment of school practices with MCP's mission, vision, and core values.
- Operational Excellence:
- Oversee the implementation of school-wide systems and processes to ensure operational efficiency.
- Work closely with the COIO to maintain high standards in school operations, facilities, and safety.
- Conduct regular school culture walkthroughs and audits to ensure a high standard of excellence.
- School Culture:
- Work with School Leaders (CEO, CAO, COIO, and Principals) to establish and maintain a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture.
- Review, revise, and codify school-wide systems with meaningful incentives and consequences.
- Lead network-wide initiatives to promote character strengths essential for student success and well-being.
- Annually administer parent and student climate surveys.
- Leadership Development:
- Coach and support Principals and other school leaders to enhance their effectiveness.
- Facilitate coaching sessions and meetings with school leaders.
- Lead efforts in planning and running professional development sessions, including annual August training for new and veteran staff.
- Character Development:
- Collaborate with the CAO and School Leaders to develop and implement a robust Character Curriculum.
- In collaboration with parent liaison organize and lead parent workshops, community events, and other culture-building activities.
- Collaboration with CAO:
- Work in close partnership with the CAO to support academic initiatives and ensure high student achievement.
- Assist in the analysis of academic data to inform decision-making and improvement plans.
- Support the implementation of the MCP Curriculum Map and instructional model to ensure consistency and best practices.
- Operational Oversight:
- Monitor student attendance, behavior, and suspension data, ensuring alignment with MCP’s standards.
- Review student behavior plans and oversee the disciplinary process.
- Ensure operational excellence across campuses, working closely with the COIO.
Measures of Success:
- Student Achievement:
- Improvement in standardized test scores and other academic performance metrics.
- Increased student proficiency rates in core subjects (Math, Reading, Science).
- School Culture and Environment:
- Positive feedback from students, parents, and staff in school climate surveys.
- Reduction in behavioral incidents and suspension rates.
- High levels of student attendance and punctuality.
- Leadership and Staff Development:
- Positive evaluations from Principals and other school leaders. This should have a metric
- Successful implementation and impact of professional development programs.
- Increased retention rates of high-performing staff.
- Character Development:
- Evident growth in students’ character strengths as observed and reported by staff and parents.
- Increased participation in character-building activities and community events. (This should have a percentage)
- Positive changes in student behavior and engagement.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Ensure timely and effective implementation of school-wide systems and processes, and compliance with all mandatory drills.
- Accurate and insightful data reporting and analysis.
- Achievement of operational goals and benchmarks as set by the CEO and executive leadership team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven record of high achievement in schools with similar expectations and demographics to MCP.
- Experience leading and effectively managing adults; proven ability to proactively lead by example.
- Deep understanding of urban school environments, school culture, and the biological, psychological, and emotional changes in K4 through Middle School students.
- Excellent communication skills with diverse constituents; clear writer, facilitator, and public speaker.
- Superb personal organization skills to manage deadlines and accountability measures.
- Strong belief in MCP’s mission and educational model.
Qualifications:
- Five years of teaching experience
- Three years of administrative and/or supervisory experience
- Master’s degree, preferred in education, administrative leadership, curriculum and instruction
Job Parameters:
- Work Schedule: This is a 12-month position.
- Vacation: 10 days of vacation plus, holidays and breaks during the school year (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.).
- PTO: Accrue 10 paid personal days per school year.

- Retirement: Eligible to participate in the 403b retirement plan, with network matching up to 5% of salary after one full year of service.
