About the Job
The Chief Quality Officer (CQO) is responsible for leading and coordinating the organization's Quality Improvement and Management functions. This role encompasses ensuring the highest quality of patient care, efficient utilization of hospital resources, and compliance with regulatory standards. The CQO will oversee Medical Staff Performance Improvement, Peer Review, Risk Management, and the Infection Prevention Program, while also supporting Emergency Preparedness and maintaining a safe patient environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating and promoting Performance Improvement activities throughout the organization.
- Ensuring organization-wide compliance with state standards, The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other regulatory requirements.
- Overseeing departments related to Quality, Risk Management, Laboratory, Accreditation, and Safety.
- Build collaborative relationships across the organization.
- Communicate the organization’s vision, mission, and values effectively.
- Foster strong physician/provider and administrative leadership teams.
- Create a team-oriented climate that encourages collaboration and commitment to the organization’s goals.
- Participate in developing a performance-based culture that maximizes employee potential and adheres to ethical standards.
- Establish compelling organizational goals and explore opportunities for continuous growth and development.
- Stay current with professional knowledge and best practices.
- Mentor and develop assigned managers while networking with peers in the field.
- Develop and implement a division vision aligned with hospital goals and priorities.
- Encourage innovative thinking to improve patient and customer service.
- Maintain focus and persistence in the face of challenges.
- Demonstrate understanding of corporate compliance laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, billing practices).
- Stay informed about global healthcare issues and regulatory environments.
- Apply Systems Thinking and Project Management oversight.
- Use Performance Improvement tools (e.g., Lean Thinking, Six Sigma) to guide projects effectively.
- Manage human, financial, and material resources to fulfill BBGH’s mission.
- Serve as the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Officer and Risk Manager.
- Oversee Quality Management, Safety, and other related programs.
- Direct budget preparation and present balanced budgets to the CEO.
- Advocate for continuing education and staff development within the organization.
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related health field.
- Conditional: Master’s degree in Nursing or related field within four years of employment.
- Required: Five years of leadership experience in an acute hospital or managed healthcare setting, with a focus on quality, infection control, or related fields.
- Preferred: Recent experience in quality management, corporate compliance, or familiarity with The Joint Commission accreditation processes.
- Required:
- State of Nebraska RN licensure or compact state license.
- Membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Preferred: Certification in infection control or related areas.
- Conditional: APIC membership within two years of employment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly.

- Confident leader with a hands-on approach, willing to engage directly with staff and patients.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, able to manage conflict effectively.
