About the Job
The Research Institute at Children's Minnesota (CMRI) promotes and facilitates research, education, and outreach. CMRI formally submits proposals on behalf of investigators, research programs, and departments within Children's. The institute works with investigators to prepare proposals, route them for appropriate sign-offs, and provides the final review and institutional approval prior to submission to a potential sponsor.
Position Summary
The Chief Research Officer (CRO) leads the scientific functions of Children's Minnesota, including basic and applied research projects, as well as the development of new clinical processes, technologies or products. This position combines discipline-specific knowledge of research compliance, science and personnel management and, in concert with appropriate business units, the CRO advances the strategic plans of Children's Minnesota. In addition to directing the Research Institute, the CRO supervises the institution's Research and Sponsored Projects (Pre-award) unit, its program in Design and Analytics, a team of Scientific Investigators and other investigators, as needed. In partnership with grants and accounting, the CRO ensures financial sustainability of the research function in support of the organizational mission. The CRO champions a culture of curiosity, investigation and continuous improvement in clinical and academic endeavors.
While this is a remote office position, there will be requirements to be onsite at the Children's facilities and a requirement to reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
QualificationsÂ
Required:
*A physician scientist with at least 10 years' experience in clinical care delivery and at least 10 years' experience as a scientific investigator in the development and management of science programs.
*At least 10 years of demonstrated success in research, including obtaining large research grants, managing research projects, presenting results, and publishing investigative research projects that pertain to healthcare. Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to work with all disciplines and levels of professionals within a large multi-specialty organization.
Preferred:
*Experience as an academic dean, chair or vice-chair of an academic department, or a leadership position in a research institute.
*Experience with research financial policies and procedures is preferred, in addition to the management of research programs and/or research departmental budgets.
*Demonstrated capability in medical management skills.
*Demonstrated capability in management skills in healthcare-related scientific endeavors.
*National and International reputation for research and scholarly activity.
License/Certification/Registration required:
*The CRO must be able to secure all state and federal licensures, as appropriate, to practice their career skills in the State of Minnesota.
Education:
*The CRO must possess an MD/DO degree.
Experience:
*Demonstrated effectiveness in leading groups, group facilitation, team-building and running effective meetings and systems improvement.
*Ability to collaborate with and build consensus among physicians, scientific investigators and other allied health clinical professionals, operations and administrative staff, and external organizations to create and maintain a strategic operational vision.
*Demonstrated ability in the development of grant or contract-related research budgets and budget justifications.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
*Research regulatory compliance.
*Translational research with application to pediatric populations.
*Multi-institutional collaborations.
*A track record of NIH or other forms of extramural funding.
*A track record of published investigative findings in peer-reviewed, healthcare-related journals.
