About the Role
The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) will provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction to drive revenue growth, profitability, performance, and service delivery, within the Leadership Team, and Management Team. Areas of oversight include:
- Business Development and Consulting
- IT and Business Solutions
- Studio AMC (Integrated Marketing Communications)
- Strategic Events and Industry Relations
- Grants and Development
Responsibilities:
- Working with the CEO, develop and articulate the company’s vision for growth, performance, profitability, and service delivery, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, leading practices within the association management environment, and industry trends within the healthcare sector.
- Partner with executive leadership to define strategic priorities and resource allocation strategies that drive company and client success - resulting in achievement of strategic imperatives, increased efficiency, business growth, and profitability for association partners and AMC.
- Establish performance metrics and dashboards to monitor progress against strategic objectives, identifying areas for optimization and continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of strategic thinking, productivity, and innovation across the organization, empowering staff at all levels to contribute to strategic planning, execution efforts, and delivery of highly valued, quality services.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors on strategic matters, providing insights and recommendations to inform decision-making processes.
- Define portfolios and services offerings that include a mix of full-service solutions, outsourced opportunities, and consulting engagements with leaders and managers within key service areas. Ensure models, budgets, and staffing levels achieve financial goals and ensure successful outcomes.
- Guide AMC’s marketing strategies and activities, including driving brand awareness, customer acquisition, and revenue growth through effective marketing initiatives, market research, communication, engagement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams and through industry outreach.
- Provide consulting services and support with select clients related to governance, strategic planning, board development, DEIB initiatives, and other areas, as appropriate and needed. This includes conducting market analysis and environmental scans to identify emerging trends, competitive threats, themes, and opportunities for differentiation. Present findings and information to inform decision-making, encourage thought leadership, and encourage innovation throughout client engagement process. Collaborate with other staff who support consultation services.
- Ensure IT strategy, infrastructure, and professional support, meets established and desired business needs for AMC and its clients.
- Maintain visibility with client boards and volunteer leaders, promoting the value of AMC services and being actively involved where needed to client transitions in or out, as well as in AMC evaluation of services and opportunities to present on strategy or other relevant topics for board leaders.
- Foster creative solutions to business challenges and actively seek new opportunities to drive revenue growth through new business acquisition and consulting services.
- Cultivate strategic partnerships and alliances with industry stakeholders and professional organizations to amplify the AMC’s visibility and influence.
- Work with CEO to ensure the necessary resources are budgeted and available to support AMC’s strategic directions and other key initiatives.
Managerial Responsibilities:
Provide guidance and direction to VPs and Directors to ensure integration of strategic objectives into day-to-day operations.
- Recruit, select, coach, and direct senior leaders and managers.
- Facilitate a culture that fosters engaged and high performing direct reports to support the achievement of the goals of AMC, as well as individual and team performance goals and outcomes.
- Engage in continuous conversations that support high performance and development and growth of direct reports through quarterly check-ins on goals and metrics to ensure consistent performance and goal achievement across all areas of oversight; as well as investing in direct reports in a consistent and productive manner.

Required Experience:
- 15 years of strategic leadership experience with management and volunteer leaders, preferably within the healthcare or association management industry
- MBA or equivalent advanced degree
- Certified Association Executive (CAE) preferred
- Ability to travel 4-5 times per year by all modes of transportation including car, plane and train
- Proficient working knowledge of Office 365, Teams, virtual meeting platforms (Zoom)
- Physical: Sitting, Walking, Standing, Manual Dexterity, Hearing and Seeing

Location:
- This is a hybrid role in Schaumburg, IL. Employees who reside within 50 miles of the office are expected to work onsite one day per month. At times, there may be circumstances that require additional visits to the office.
- Candidates who live more than 50 miles from the office, including in and out of IL, may be considered for a remote opportunity. Out of state applicants may be eligible for hire, depending on the state in which they reside.
