Dialysis - Child Life Specialist I

Here at Boston Children’s, we perform about 3,500 chronic dialysis treatments per year in our seven-bed dialysis unit designed especially for kids. Our dialysis nurses will do everything they can to make sure your child is comfortable during their treatments. In addition to the nurses, our unit also includes specially trained dietitians, tutors, Child Life specialists, and pharmacists, making us the only full-service dialysis unit in New England. We perform about 3,500 chronic dialysis treatments per year.
This Child Life Specialist will be responsible for:
40 hours a week

In addition to the nurses, our unit also includes specially trained dietitians, tutors, Child Life specialists, and pharmacists, making us the only full-service dialysis unit in New England. We perform about 3,500 chronic dialysis treatments per year.
This Child Life Specialist will be responsible for:
- Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients
- Serving as member of multidisciplinary team.
- Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participates in clinical training of student interns.
- Working 40 hours per week, including weekends
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
- 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
- General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced‑based knowledge.
- Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
- Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire
