As a Child Nutrition Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the well-being and academic success of our students through effective and compliant child nutrition services.
Position Overview:
The Child Nutrition Coordinator plays a key role in supporting Carter G. Woodson School’s food service program, collaborating with our POS Clerk, Senior Executive Director, Compliance Consultant and other contractors/vendors to ensure meal service is delivered smoothly, safely, and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This position fosters clear and consistent communication with administration, staff, students, parents, and food vendors, maintaining a high standard of quality and care throughout the program.
Employment Terms:
- Hours: 7 am to 3 pm with 1 hour lunch (7 hours/day (35 hours per week), Monday-Friday
- Benefits: Full benefits package, 11-month contract
- Salary: Negotiable
Reports To:
Senior Executive Director
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Compliance and Coordination: Partner with the NCDPI Regional Child Nutrition Consultant, dietitian, compliance officer, and food service vendors to ensure meal service adheres to approved menus and nutrition standards.
- Point of Service (POS) Management: Support the POS Clerk with managing food receipts, production records, and lunch service operations.
- Quality and Cost Control: Ensure food quality, adherence to nutritional standards, and efficient use of resources by verifying the cost, quantity, and quality of all received items.
- Equipment and Facility Management: Coordinate equipment purchases, maintenance, and repairs as needed to ensure a functional and safe environment.
- Sanitation and Safety: Monitor cafeteria sanitation and food safety standards, addressing any issues to maintain compliance.
- Data Management: Regularly update records, coordinate USDA reimbursement submissions, and support PowerSchool integration for tracking.
- Policy Compliance: Collaborate on creating and updating school and NCDPI child nutrition policies with compliance officers and dietitians.
- Training Support: Train staff in POS systems, food service standards, and HACCP procedures.
- Administrative Review (AR) Preparation: Assist the Child Nutrition team in preparing for and managing the Administrative Review process.
- Student Engagement/Participation:
Responsibilities as Coordinator:
- Communication: Serve as a key liaison to students, parents, and staff on child nutrition program details, conducting outreach through sessions and surveys.
- Collaboration: Work closely with administration, compliance consultants, and vendors to coordinate program goals, meetings, and training initiatives.
- Event Support: Assist with planning and executing special events related to school nutrition.
- Parent Engagement: Address parent inquiries and concerns with professionalism and a commitment to positive communication.
Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in food safety standards and equipment operation
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships
- Proficient in POS software (e.g., Meals Plus, Titan), menu planning software (e.g., Nutri-Kids), and office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
- In-depth knowledge of USDA meal patterns and relevant regulations
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a high-activity environment

Minimum Training and Experience
- A high school diploma or GED is required; a 2- to 4-year degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- ServSafe Manager Certification or equivalent (provided upon employment)
