CHILDCARE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR / EDUCATOR (REQ 3713) - South Peninsula Hospital

Starting pay is $28.00 - $30.00 per hour dependent on experience and education qualifications, plus full benefits, paid holidays, and paid time off.

Our child care center fosters a holistic education that nourishes the childs head, heart, and hands while also focusing on character growth and development. The Assistant Director/Educator will strengthen empathetic relationships with educators and our students by promoting opportunities for imaginative play, sensory integration, social emotional learning, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Assistant Director/Educator will work in partnership with the Childcare Director to support business operations and supervision of a licensed child care center for children ages three months to 12 years old. This position will primarily function as a classroom educator and support with administrative duties as needed. The Assistant Director/Educator will also support and guide implementation of the curriculum, teachers and other staff members in their educational career path, adhere to all licensing requirements, and act as the director in their absence.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• Two or more years of teaching experience in early childhood education
• Commitment to the importance of play-based, nature-based, and child-centered education
• Must meet all state licensing requirements for a center director, or be able to receive them within the first six months of hire
• CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain within six months of hire
• Experience with Montessori, Waldorf, Expeditionary Learning and/or experience as a Director or Assistant Director in an educational setting is a plus
• Excellent organization and communication skills

ENVIRONMENT:

South Peninsula Hospitals Childcare Center is licensed to serve up to 60 children, ages three months to 12 years. Located in Downtown Homer, our center includes five indoor classrooms, offices and spaces for kids and their families to receive services and support, a locally built playground, plus a year-round outdoor classroom. This position requires walking, standing for periods of time, stooping, getting to ground level with kids, sitting and occasional lifting. Generally, physical demands are light and work hours may fluctuate based on the needs of the childcare center.
