POSITION DESCRIPTION
Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Children and Youth Supervisor, this role is responsible for providing case management services within the Children and Youth service system. Caseworkers are responsible for assessing the safety and well-being of children who are referred for services. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, caseworkers assist children and families in developing skills, identifying supports, and coordinating resources that contribute to the overall well-being of children and families. Services may be provided in homes, schools, and in the community. At times, caseworkers have the responsibility to work with various individuals from the legal system and law enforcement as it pertains to the safety and well-being of children. This can include providing testimony in court on behalf of the agency.
Caseworkers are provided with extensive training to ensure that staff members have the needed knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work required. On-call and work outside normal business hours are required. Caseworkers enjoy flexible schedules to accommodate these requirements.
Duties are conducted in accordance with existing policies, procedures, and regulations. This position has been designated to be a part of the County's CYS workforce for purposes exclusive to the proper handling of consumer information as is required by SAM privacy policies.
Essential Functions:
Develops positive working relationships with children and families.
Assesses safety and risk of children on assigned caseload.
Collaborates with children and families to develop individualized Family Service Plans that identify strengths and areas for improvement to ultimately support a child's safety in the home and community.
Identifies community and familial resources that can help to support children and families.
Prepares required documentation to ensure that services rendered are documented accurately and clearly.
Collaborates with other systems including, but not limited to, the legal system, educational system, and medical system.
Participates in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and provide effective services.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree with completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions

Automobile and Valid Insurance, Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License, acceptable Motor Vehicle Record Check, Act 33 and Act 34 Clearances, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, Social Security Card, Immigration and Naturalization (I-9), Drug Screening Clearance
Working Conditions:
Prolonged periods working on a computer in an open office environment, comfortable communicating through virtual technology, and travel throughout the assigned region may occur and may be in adverse weather conditions, must be able to lift 15 pounds.
