The Emergency & Critical Care Technician is responsible for providing outstanding patient care and exceptional client service while working with doctors and shift leadership to address patient care needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Triage of critical patients
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient history, treatment estimates, and admitting and discharging of patients.
- Restrain animals for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Perform venipuncture.
- Monitor anesthesia and recover patients post-operatively
- Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas.
- Perform basic kennel duties as required.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with Doctors and clients regarding their patients' needs.
SCHEDULE:
- Relief overnight and weekend shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Veterinary Technician experience is required.
- Licensure is preferred but not required.
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can effectively deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, or in pain.
- Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day.
- Excellent customer service, computer, and phone etiquette skills are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to bend, stand, stoop, walk, and stand for an extended period of time.
- Required to lift up to forty (40) pounds. Employees will be expected to request assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over 40 pounds.
WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- Radiation exposure (x-ray, CT Scan)
- Possible exposure to gas sterilization using ethylene oxide
- Hazards associated with infected animals, controlled substances, and possible exposure to contagious diseases
- Exposures to unpleasant odors and noises
- Exposure to aggressive patients, bites, scratches, and animal wastes
