About the Job
The City of Jersey Village is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented City Secretary to join our municipal team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining city records, ensuring compliance with state and local laws, supporting the City Council, and facilitating effective communication between departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of local government operations, records management, and public administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Council Support: Prepare agendas, minutes, and other documents for City Council meetings; attend meetings to record proceedings and ensure proper documentation.
- Records Management: Maintain and safeguard official city records, including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and public notices in accordance with state laws.
- Elections Administration: Oversee the coordination of city elections, ensuring compliance with election laws and procedures.
- Public Information Requests: Process and respond to requests for public information in compliance with the Texas Public Information Act.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure timely filing of documents with state agencies and adherence to legal reporting requirements.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the City Manager or City Council.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in n Business, Public Administration, or a related field
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in municipal government, preferably in a City Secretary or similar administrative role.
- Certification: Texas Municipal Clerks Certification (or willingness to obtain within two years).
- Background: The ideal candidate will have a strong background in municipal government, with extensive experience in records
management, public meeting support, and election administration. - Skills:
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in records management and office software (Microsoft Office, records management systems).
- Knowledge of Texas local government laws and election procedures.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
