The Civil Division of the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has a rare opening in its Land Use and Environmental Law Unit. The unit of 7 deputy prosecutors performs a wide range of legal activities in this specialized subject area. Among other responsibilities, attorneys provide legal advice to county officials and staff, assist with the drafting and passage of legislation, support habitat restoration and water quality improvement efforts, assist with federal permitting requirements, and prosecute code violations. Additionally, the unit handles land use and environmental litigation on behalf of the County in state and federal courts and in state administrative tribunals including the Growth Management Hearings Board and the Pollution Control Hearings Board. Attorneys with any level of experience, or no experience, are welcome to apply for the position, although applicants must be able to articulate an interest in environmental and land use law.

Employees also receive 8 hours of annual floating leave and 11 paid holidays.
Snohomish County offers a generous total compensation package. The salary range for a Level I, Step 1 civil deputy prosecuting attorney through a Level III Step 6 attorney is $90,191.04 to $194,984.88. Effective January 1, 2025, these salaries will increase by 3.6% under a cost-of-living adjustment. Additionally, employees receive benefits including medical, dental, vision, PERS (pension), disability insurance, and a limited employer-matching contribution for deferred compensation. The office pays for state and local bar dues and the position may qualify for school or federal student loan forgiveness programs.
Membership in the Washington State Bar Association is required. Under state law, deputy prosecuting attorneys must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.
