Stefanini Group is hiring a Civil Engineer for a key client of ours in the utilities and power industry. This position will be based in South Plainfield, New Jersey in a hybrid work environment (3 days in office and 2 days remote).
The Staff Engineer will help with process management in Outside Plant Engineering processes (sub stations). You will take the lead in gathering current requirements and providing recommendations on how processes can improve. Also, participate in meetings with IT team to make sure Software Apps (Outside plant estimating systems; called “Compatible Units”) are working properly.
You will provide leadership on assigned projects for Project Engineering and Design within the organization's Electric Transmission Engineering division by utilizing a broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience. You will acts as a primary interface with multiple Consulting-Engineering firms for Inside Plant projects that are outsourced and assures that PSE&G standards are maintained by these firms.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee complex projects and provide liaison functions with Licensing and Permitting Group, System Planners, System Protection Engineers, Asset Experts, Vendors, Projects Managers, construction and operating personnel consultants and contractors.
- Review complex Civil Design drawings for conformance to organizational standards and applicable federal, state, and local ordinances.
- Provide technical support during permitting and construction of projects; resolve complex technical problems and provide solutions.
- Evaluate and review drawings and documents used for construction and bid purposes.
- Must maintain and apply working knowledge of organizational Standards for Business Controls and meet management's expectations for effective internal business controls.
- Update and manage workforce planning tool
- Review and check Civil design documents including drawings, calculations, specifications, etc. on outsourced and in-house engineering projects for conformance to standards and applicable design criteria.
- Demonstrate leadership in their role and have the ability to stand-in for the Group's supervisor when required
- Effectively interact with internal and external groups.
- Team leadership on critical projects and initiatives.
- Act as a primary interface with multiple Consulting -Engineering firms for project work that is outsourced and assure that Codes, Industry practices and standards are maintained by these firms.
- Candidate must have the initiative and ability to work independently on most issues with limited supervision, as well as demonstrated ability to manage multiple issues and projects.
- Proven ability to effectively interact with internal and external groups and clearly display individual and team, leadership and critical projects and initiatives.
- Provide civil engineering support on projects from inception to completion.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
- Understanding of power/electrical plant construction (power poles, lines, transformer stations, etc).
- Some knowledge of SAP
- A minimum of four years of relevant engineering experience
- Experience with review of civil design documents, including drawings, calculations, specifications, submittals, etc.
- Familiar with civil engineering codes - NBC, ACI and AIS
- Strong individual initiative and ability to work independently on most technical issues

- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft office applications
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong planning and organizational skills; adaptable and oriented
- As the job requires company, locations, and offsite assignments and events, must possess a valid US drivers license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
- Familiarity with CAD design is nice to have
- PowerBI and Excel skills
- Nice to have: Engineer training certificate and/or advanced technical training and/or Advanced technical or engineering degree/masters/MBA
- Experience with regulatory and licensing requirements, including environmental, zoning, planning, and construction codes is helpful.
- Also helpful: Knowledge of StaadPRO, RISA 3D, HEC-RAS, L- Pile, SAG- 0, or similar Civil analysis and design software
