Project Manager, Civil Engineering
Hybrid Schedule: Monday - Wednesday in office, Thursday & Friday remote. Stewart also offers a M-F 4/9 Schedule with ½ days on Friday.
The Role
The Project Manager, Civil Engineering will be responsible for the day-to-day project management on several different civil engineering projects. You will supervise the execution of projects, oversee the design process, and coordinate with the design team. You will have an opportunity to expand your portfolio by working on exciting, high-profile, and complex projects. In addition to working on a variety of projects, you will partner with the Director to develop strategies for technical excellence, engagement, and growth. The Civil Engineering practice is focused on Site/Civil Land Development Engineering projects in a variety of sectors: Mixed-Use, Healthcare, Higher Ed, Residential and more. Our work includes grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, storm-water, site planning, and permitting for development projects across NC.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with Studio Leader, client, and stakeholders to define project scope, goals, deliverables, resources, budget, and timeline. Assist Studio Leader with staff development and identifying training needs.
- Develop and maintain project schedules.
- Maintain profitability goals for projects set by Studio Leader and track and monitor utilization rates and labor summaries.
- Coordinate scope and pricing changes with the Client and communicate information to the Studio Leader.
- Ensure that all steps and procedures are followed through the local jurisdictional requirements.
- Interface with clients, other discipline managers, and local, state, and federal review staff.
- Provide clear, effective, and constant communications with clients and team members.
- Coordinate drawings with Architects and other consultants.
- Responsible for quality of the work performed, client service, utilization of staff, reputation of office, contract management, and project profitability.
- Assist in the adherence of Quality Control/Quality Assurance policies.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals, response to RFPs, and actively conduct business development as directed by the Studio Leader.
- Actively pursue and communicate project opportunities.
- Represent the firm at various public and private functions.
- Supervises Construction Observation and Administration related duties such as meetings, site visits, response to RFIs, and review of shop drawings, Develops solutions for field issues.
- Periodically provides on-site visits to inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with design documents, building and safety codes, or other regulations.
- Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
- Actively participates as a member of the staff. Participation may include tasks such as training, special committees, or outside organizations.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, required.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the civil engineering industry with civil site design and engineering experience required.
- Licensed Professional Engineer, required.
- Advanced knowledge of civil engineering concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, and engineer site and land development projects to include grading, erosion control, phasing, environmental, storm-water, water, wastewater, site design, zoning analysis and roadway plans at a minimum.
- Advanced knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and professional standards.
- Advanced understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of software used in engineering design and plan production.
- Experience with Bluebeam and Civil 3D.
- Valid Driver's License.
Competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, and other related software utilized in the civil engineering industry.
- Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Travel Requirements
- Occasionally be asked to travel to other office locations. Travel might be in an automobile or train. Travel distance is up to 200 miles one way; however, most travel is within a 25-50-mile radius and occasionally requiring an overnight stay.
