Position Overview:
The Project Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, comprehensive estimates for heavy highway construction projects, including bridge structures, sound walls, retaining walls, utilities, railroad structures, support of excavation, and large infrastructure projects ranging from $5 million to over $100 million. This role requires attention to detail, thorough industry knowledge, and effective communication with team members, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and site conditions for bid estimate preparation.
- Read and interpret contract drawings, including structural, cross-sectional, drainage, roadway, erosion control, and maintenance of traffic (MPT) drawings.
- Conduct accurate quantity takeoffs and produce thorough, precise cost estimates.
- Collaborate with material suppliers and subcontractors to communicate project requirements.
- Review and analyze supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure alignment with project needs.
- Assess and account for project complexities in estimates to provide accurate, competitive bids.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years in Project Estimating or a similar role in heavy highway construction.
- Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid and Microsoft Office. Experience with Bluebeam, AGTEK, Primavera, or Trimble Viewpoint is a plus.
- Direct experience in bridge and structural estimating.
- Familiarity with standard specifications and drawings from PennDOT, PA Turnpike, NJ DOT, DelDOT, and/or NJ Turnpike.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
