Civil Structural Engineer V - CDI Engineering Services

CDI Engineering Solutions is a multi-disciplinary engineering organization offering a full range of integrated engineering design, project support, procurement and construction management services to the energy and chemicals industries.

Position Summary:

Civil/Structural Engineering lead and Engineer of Record to various project assignments and working onsite. Communicate with the client onsite daily and lead the Civil/Structural team to meet the project schedule and budget.  Responsible for performing all design and analysis aspects associated with civil/structural scopes of work.   Designing deep and shallow foundation systems, open framed steel and concrete structures, containment structures.  Structural analysis and condition evaluation of existing structures.  Providing support to project teams in developing structural expansion strategy and conceptual plans.  Generally performing at all project stages including early conceptual development and feasibility studies, low and high accuracy estimates, detail design and construction support. Experience on managing a team, preparing MH estimate for C/S work, having daily site visit, and developing the relationship with the client. 

Responsibilities:

Ability to be a Lead Engineer on singular Civil/Structural projects.

Applies engineering principles in discipline of competency, as assigned by supervisor with minimal direction.

Prepare material specifications for specific components.

Prepares advanced sketches and calculations for a specific segment of a project.

Assists in the development of technical specifications.

Evaluates vendor bids and drawings to assure compliance with specifications.

Visits vendor facilities to inspect structures and relevant equipment for compliance with requirements and existing drawings, and to evaluate the site, project requirements, and conditions.

Interfaces with other disciplines and Clients.

Prepare Material Take-offs on civil/structural items.

Review vendor drawings and steel fabrication drawings.

Develop a focus on least cost and safe design for civil/structural systems.

Maintains continued awareness of project schedule and budget.

Qualifications:

Must possess the minimum of a BS in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited university.

Engineer must have 5-7 years of progressive experience in the field of Civil/Structural Engineering, preferably in the petrochemical industry. Engineer must already have attained PE certification or must be making plans to sit for the PE examination.

Louisiana PE preferred.

Language Skills
Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos, all in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to comprehend and complete testing for Safety Orientations through either written, verbal or computer interaction, as required by tester.

Computer Skills
Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge of MS Word and Excel software. Ability to use basic engineering software programs, such as STAAD or RISA, is required. Familiarity with AutoCAD is a plus, but not mandatory. 

Reasoning Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.  Must possess problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issued involving multiple variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to travel to client jobsites, usually petrochemical production facilities and must have the ability to access all areas as required. Therefore, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and the risk of electric shock.  The noise level in the industrial workplace can be loud. The Engineer must exercise caution and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as specified by CDI and the Clients, to ensure their own safety and the safety of their co-workers.
