JOB DESCRIPTION

The paraeducator in this position will work directly with students in the classroom setting with the goal of improving student reading, writing, and math skills.This paraeducator will be responsible for carrying through prescribed instructional programs under the direct supervision of certificated staff. Other duties include adapting and making materials appropriate to instructional needs, lunch/recess supervision, crossing, maintaining accurate records, and performing other paraeducator duties as assigned by the supervisor.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1. Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
3. Mustattach unofficial transcriptproving AA or equivalentto application.Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
4. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
5. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
6. Must pass a basic skills test.
7. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
8. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Required academic skills to assist students (i.e. knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading and social studies).
2. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
3. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
4. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
5. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
6. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
7. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
8. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
9. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
10. Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

1. Bachelor’s Degree.
2. Previous experience working in a multicultural setting.
3. Bilingual.
4. Experience and/or training with computer technology and ability to assist students with computer operations.
5. Effectively communicates and develops relationship with students, teachers, administrators, parents and public.
6. Able to work with interruptions while balancing daily responsibilities.
7. Able to monitor student progress under teacher supervision.
8. Evidence of ability to be a self-starter.
9. Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist with instruction as directed by certificated staff using developmentally appropriate activities.
2. Participate in assessment activities.
3. Prepare instructional materials as requested.
4. Independently supervise playground and crosswalk duties as assigned.
5. Participate in staff in-service training, meetings, activities and Parent Advisory Council meetings.
6. Maintain records as necessary for efficient procedures and evaluation.
7. Maintain professionalism by being confidential with all school-related information.
8. Assist in supervision and control of students in order to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate in and around the building.
9. Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior.
10. Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness, civility and human sensitivity.
11. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification.
12. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

• Lifting:The employee must be able to lift or move up to 18-26 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.
