Principal Duties & Responsibilities
For this position, we are open to hiring a Claim Manager (manages a team along with their own small pending) or a Technical Claim Manager (does not manage a team but has a full pending).
Direct handling responsibilities will include:
Handling general liability primary and excess claims proactively to achieve optimum payout results by resolving claims fairly, expeditiously, and economically.
Assessing coverage issues on claims and issuing appropriate coverage letters/documentation.
Completing timely investigation of claim and post appropriate reserves.
Aggressively pursuing risk transfer opportunities
Preparing large loss reports and presenting in roundtables to various levels of management
Handlingclaims in accordance with RLI's Best Practices.
Resolving claims in timely manner to effective outcome.
Management responsibilitiesmay include:
Supervising and managing casualty claim staffensure optimum payout results by resolving claims fairly, expeditiously, and economically. to
Proactively coordinating and communicating with upper management and Underwriting on claim trends, insured accounts, underwriting risks, policy/form development, etc.
Applying a disciplined approach to claim management with an emphasis on tracking claim development, trends, proper reserving and overall adherence to claim handling instructions, etc.
Training and improving performance of existing claim staff on all claim handling and resolution procedures.
Education & Experience
Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration, insurance, or a related field and 6+ years of relevant legal or insurance related experience. A law degree is not required but could be beneficial to the position along with experience in practice handling insurance defense or coverage matters.
Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies
The ideal candidate will have experience in handling complex and high-exposure construction-related claims, including construction defect and bodily injury claims, under general liability primary and excess policies and have superior working knowledge of case law, statutes, and procedures impacting the handling and value of such claims. Candidates must be experienced in conducting proactive coverage and claim investigations, managing outside counsel, developing and implementing claim and litigation strategy, and negotiating claim resolution.
