Claims Consultant - The Jacobson Group

Job Description:
Our client is a risk pool offering self-insured property/casualty coverage to park districts, special recreation associations and forest preserve/conservation districts in northern Illinois. Due to growth, they are seeking a Claims Consultant specializing in managing commercial liability claims to join their team. The Claims Consultant will be responsible for managing a caseload comprised of the following liability coverage lines: general, bodily injury and property damage, personal injury, sexual misconduct, public officials errors and omissions, and employment practices. This position is hybrid in Illinois.

Responsibilities:

• Investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle liability claims.
• Determine coverage, claims compensability, and establish and maintain reserves.
• Communicate with member representatives, witnesses, claimants and their attorneys, defense counsel and internal staff.
• Communicate with excess carriers and reinsurers to give status updates, financial information, damage documentation and to request reinsurance recovery.
• Communicate relevant claim trends to internal risk management staff to support loss control intervention programs and member-specific interventions.
• Manage litigated files, including coordination of assignment and supporting the development of the defense strategy.
• Assist with responding to auditor requests for information and by providing other assistance in support of auditing processes, as requested.
• Provide data, claims summaries and other relevant information as requested. Present claim status update reports and recommendations to risk pool governance bodies, reinsurers and other stakeholders, as requested.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years of commercial liability claims experience
• Experience analyzing and determining coverage
• Experience writing reservation of rights and coverage denial correspondence
• Working knowledge of the Illinois Tort Immunity Act (strongly preferred)
