Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversight of the Third-Party Administrator (TPA) in the management of claims involving coverage matters and cases that are in litigation.
- Manage a spreadsheet diary and SharePoint site to manage caseload and to retain notes and correspondence.
- Utilize TPA data to ensure legal matters and potential litigation cases are promptly identified and coordinated with management and AIPSO Legal staff.
- Prepare and present large losses reports to internal and external claim partners to discuss all cases over $500K.
- Responsible for the assignment of cases to defense and coverage counsel and managing cases towards best, cost-effective resolution
- Manage to ensure that both the TPA and Defense counsel are adhering to the established Litigation Guidelines.
- Manage to ensure that Best Practices and Claims Handling, and State specific regulatory guidelines are being met.
- Participates in roundtable and case planning discussions with both AIPSO claim staff, the TPA and Defense Counsel.
- Utilize data to target review of open cases in litigation to identify settlement opportunities.
- Approve reserve and settlement requests within delegated authority.
- Track and control legal expenses to assure best, cost effective resolution.
- Manage all litigated claims to resolution.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university with supplementary insurance education preferred. CPCU or other insurance designations and/or additional appropriate experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience:
7 or more years of commercial auto and private passenger claims and litigation experience. Experience providing coverage analysis and demonstrated property casualty claim technical expertise. Experience with handling of Commercial Claims involving trucking and leases. Previous experience with residual market automobile insurance plan rules and regulations preferred. Strong commercial auto coverage and data comprehension skills preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Possess strong liability and damages analysis and thorough understanding of the litigation process, relevant case and statutory law and expert litigation management skills.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or individuals.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changes, including ability to manage multiple lines of business.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills, including ability to analyze complex issues, find the root cause of the problem, and consider a wide range of alternatives before acting.
- Ability to work independently and interact professionally and effectively in a team environment.
- Provide leadership by example through feedback and input in group meetings and discussions.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office productivity tools (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel) and policy management systems to manage work.
- Knowledge of the Insurance industry claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment.
Salary Range: $87,000 – $139,000 Annual. Actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; internal equity and other conditions of employment.
