About Us: Fathers’ UpLift is the country’s first mental health and substance abuse treatment facility for fathers and families, helping fathers become and remain emotionally stable for their children.
Fathers' UpLift uses peer coaching, father-child therapy, training, youth programs, and support for incarcerated and recently released fathers to honor and rehabilitate the relationship between thousands of fathers and families in Boston and the surrounding areas. In their outpatient clinic, over 800 fathers and families receive mental health services from clinicians trained in trauma who reflect the population being served. Outside the clinic, Fathers' UpLift partners with community centers, substance abuse programs, and other agencies to build a holistic approach to helping fathers rebuild their lives and relationships with their families.
General Summary: The Financial Counselor at Fathers’ UpLift is crucial in assessing patients' financial situations, providing insurance options, and offering enrollment assistance. They are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and validity of financial information, insurance benefits, and authorization while adhering to established policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities of the Participant
The financial counselor assists our clients with various financial application procedures, includingMedicaid, Connector Care, QHP, and sliding-scale fees; educates patients about their financial liabilities; and develops payment arrangements for said liabilities. The financial counselor also conducts outreach and attends Fathers’ Uplift and other community events to solicit our services.
The selected candidate must complete certification to become a Certified Health Insurance Navigator within one month of their start date. As a Certified Health Insurance Navigator, your duties would include:
1. Assist patients with Medicaid and charity care application procedures and educate them about their financial liabilities.
2. Conduct comprehensive patient interviews while adhering to Financial Assistance Program standards, verifying potential third-party coverage, and determining eligibility for assistance programs.
3. Complete applications for third-party assistance programs and adhere to payer standards for obtaining authorizations/pre-certifications.
4. Enter patient information accurately into our electronic health records system (Tebra) and maintain detailed records of client interactions and insurance appointments.
5. Communicate with clients and families to address questions or concerns and collaborate with insurance providers to verify coverage and obtain necessary authorizations.
6. Guide individuals through the application and enrollment process for health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace and provide information regarding Medicaid, CHIP, and other health coverage options.
7. Conduct outreach and education activities to raise awareness about health insurance options and assist with enrollment events.
8. Assist individuals in understanding their rights and responsibilities under the Affordable Care Act and help them select suitable health insurance plans.
9. Promptly submit Service Delivery Reports (SDRs) to the Department of Mental Health in the EIM/ESM system for clients who have received services while their insurance has lapsed.
9. Maintain accurate records of all interactions and assist in reporting enrollment data to appropriate agencies.
10. Stay updated on changes in healthcare laws and regulations to provide accurate and up-to-date
information to clients and collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community
organizations to ensure access to information and assistance for enrolling in affordable health coverage.
11. Maintain confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA regulations at all times.
12. Demonstrate the culture of Fathers’ UpLift values in daily operations.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Health Insurance Navigator within one month of start date.
- Familiarity with healthcare laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
- Proficiency in using EHR and practice management systems.

Skills and Qualifications for Intake Coordinator
● Please ensure that you have the following qualifications for the position:
● A High School Diploma is required.
● Previous experience of at least two (2) years working in a hospital or medical office in a patient access, pre-registration, or intake coordinator role.
● At least two (2) years of experience in insurance verification.
● Minimum of one (1) year of related healthcare Revenue Cycle experience, preferably with a focus on Financial Counseling.
● Working knowledge of various types of health insurance, such as Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial plans, with the ability to explain insurance benefits to patients.
● Experience working with EHR, EMR, and CRM programs, such as EPIC and Athena.
● Ability to navigate various insurance websites to verify health insurance information.
● Bilingual skills are a plus, mainly Spanish and Haitian Creole.
