POSITION PURPOSE (Summary)
The primary purpose of the Clinic Receptionist is to perform clerical support to the physician office.
This statement of general duties describes the principal function of the position, and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work requirements inherent to the position.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma, Business courses, medical terminology, human anatomy, excellent people skills
Experience: Prior experience in physician office, medical coding and billing preferred.
Licenses/Certificates: CPR, medical assisting, CPC
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired concerning the personal, financial, medical or employment status of patients (and their families) provided service by the hospital.
- Greets patients as they come into the office and ensure the sign in at the front desk.
- Obtain all information and signatures for all patients pertinent to registration billing and treatment. Keeps originals in patient’s file, inputs into computer.
- Set up new patient charts and pull charts for next day’s scheduled appointments.
- Schedule appointments as appropriate (include cancellations and rescheduling) obtaining pertinent information for visit. Provide M.D. with a copy of schedule each morning. Telephone patients prior to appointment for reminder.
- Verify insurance, obtain pre authorization of benefits. Collect applicable deductibles and co-insurances.
- Posts and balance charges on a daily balance.
- Balances payments and turns in to business office on a daily basis.
- Prepare daily receipt journal, balance and forward to business office.
- Counts cash box and balance daily.
- Takes accurate messages and delivers promptly. Ensures answering machine is ON when leaving office.
- Monitor waiting areas for tidiness (straighten up as needed), and monitor patients in waiting area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
