Job Summary and Qualifications
Plans and directs preparation of modified diets prescribed by the medical staff for patients with therapeutic diet needs. Assists with the administrative functions of operating the Nutritional Services department. The NHH staff member can expect to care for adult patients, including the older adult through geriatric, and pediatric patients from newborn through adolescence. Develops and executes departmental in-services. May assist as needed in diet office and patient tray line. Assisting other team members as needed and outstanding customer/guest service relations. Assists with projects as needed.
What you will do in this role:
- Display positive guest and employee relations at all times.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Provide assessment, treatment and provides medical nutrition therapy, document finding and recommendations; plans and implements nutrition intervention; collaborates with patient care team; educates patient/caregiver to all aspects of MNT including but not exclusive of diet therapy; reassesses patient for changes in nutritional needs; documents nutritional plan of care and monitors progress.
- Provide education and instruction to patients with nutritional information as ordered by the physicians.
- Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel.
- Acts as Preceptor to Dietetic Interns and accepts responsibility for coaching, teaching, and mentoring to help meet clinical competency requirements in order to complete the assigned rotation.
- Trains new staff and accepts responsibility for coaching, teaching, and mentoring to help meet clinical competency requirements.
- Attends all required meetings.
- Develop and present education and training in-services and training manuals.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of patient’s status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the primary population of patients served in the department.
- Attendance and being on time, ready to work scheduled hours is an essential job function.
- Assists in other areas of Food & Nutrition Services as needed.
- Works to create a team environment with all team members.
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor or advanced degree in nutrition.
- Must have knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, mathematics and food handling.
- At least one year of experience in clinical dietetics in an acute care hospital setting (preferred).
- Management experience (preferred).
- Experience in modified diets (preferred).
- Registered Dietitian (Commission on Dietetic Registration) with all attendant privileges and responsibilities that come with that registration.
- Must possess and maintain current license from Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians.
- Maintains current awareness in the field of clinical dietetics by reading, attending workshops and seminars, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
