Overview:

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Clinical Lab Scientist II performs a range of standard and/or technically demanding procedures in one or more of the Clinical Laboratory disciplines exercising initiative and independent judgment.  Communicates technical or general information to their manager, director, & medical staff. May provide instruction in the basic theory, technical skills and applications of laboratory test procedures. Provides expertise and serves as a technical resource for Technicians. The CLS II functions as a licensed staff member performing duties approved by California Business and Professions Code, CLIA and other regulatory agencies. To perform assays in Special Chemistry using high complexity instruments such as HPLC or mass spectrophotometry. Responsibilities include conducting assays in Special Chemistry using high-complexity instruments such as HPLC and mass spectrophotometry, performing tests like Vitamin D, Homocysteine, amino acids, and others.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 2 to 5 years of relevant clinical experience with at least 1-year in the area of specialty (chemistry and special chemistry).

• Availability to work on weekends and holidays.
• Proficiency in High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Mass Spectrophotometry.
• Ability to work independently in a high-volume laboratory setting.
• Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and troubleshooting expertise.
• Demonstrated strong work ethic and accountability.

Education/Licensure/Certifications: Bachelor's degree in biology or related science required.

Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.

ASCP Board of Registry certification as Medical Technologist, or other specialty preferred.

Pay Scale Information:CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
