Clinical Laboratory Scientist Per Diem Lead Blood Bank 8 Hour Day Shift
Job Summary:
The Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for the technical and administrative operation of an assigned section of the clinical laboratory, such as, hematology, or chemistry, or microbiology, or blood bank, or the pm (2nd) shift. This position is required to perform a variety of moderately complex and complex, as defined by CLIA, laboratory procedures. Professional application of the principles, theories, techniques and quality controls of laboratory science are used to organize and monitor their section for quality performance of the staff. This position reports to the laboratory manager/supervisor, and/or the administrative director of Laboratory services.
Essential Job Duties:
Daily reviews all laboratory departments’ quality control, preventive maintenance, analytes’ reportable ranges, reference ranges, proficiency testing, policies/procedures, and inventory of supplies; documents actions taken and monthly submits to the Lab Manager/Supervisor/Administrative Director.
Works closely with the staff to investigate and report incidents or instrument problems, effectiveness of the LIS and assess for improvements that can be implemented and submits to the Lab Manager/Supervisor/Administrative Director.
- Assesses the staff’s competence and compliance to policies of the laboratory and pathology departments and ensures continued competency and compliance through staff education, development, and counseling; submits to the Lab Manager/Supervisor/Administrative Director.
- Encourages and organizes staff to work as a team to develop employee satisfaction goals, and their implementation.
- Monitors the turnaround times of stats, delta checks, corrected reports, and verifies critical values are called within 15 min.; submits to the Lab Manager/Supervisor/Administrative Director.
- Assists, directs and supervises phlebotomist/lab assistants in obtaining and processing patient specimens.
- Performs other duties assigned by the lab manager/supervisor/lab administrative director.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor of Science with Clinical Laboratory Training and a minimum of 2 years' experience in at least one section of the hospital clinical laboratory. Previous leadership roles are desired.
- Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license
