Position Overview:
We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Specialist with expertise in grossing to join our Anatomic Pathology Laboratory (AH-Lab) for a 13-week travel contract. This position is ideal for a Grossing Technologist who is highly skilled in the accurate description, dissection, and processing of biopsies and tissue specimens. The specialist will be working directly under the supervision of the Pathologist and/or Pathology Supervisor to ensure that all specimens are handled in accordance with established protocols.
This role requires strong attention to detail, a solid background in histology, and the ability to handle moderate-complexity laboratory tasks in a clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities:

Grossing & Specimen Handling:
- Accurately describe, dissect, and process biopsies, and both routine and moderate-complexity tissue specimens as per established protocols.
- Perform grossing of surgical specimens and ensure proper documentation of specimen descriptions under the direct supervision of the Pathologist or Pathology Supervisor.
- Ensure specimens are properly labeled, preserved, and prepared for further processing or histological examination.

Technical Activities in Pathology:
- Assist with technical activities in the Pathology Department, including specimen accessioning, staining, cover slipping, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Prepare cytology specimens when necessary, ensuring all specimen handling complies with laboratory safety and quality standards.
- Participate in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the lab environment.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of all specimens, following all regulatory guidelines and laboratory procedures.
- Adhere to quality control protocols, ensuring that all work meets the standards set forth by the laboratory and regulatory bodies.
- Perform regular checks of equipment and instruments to ensure they are in working condition and report any malfunctions or issues.

Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with pathologists, laboratory supervisors, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality patient care.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure accurate and timely processing of specimens.
- Participate in department meetings, contributing ideas for improving workflow or laboratory processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science (preferably in a related field such as biology, medical technology, or clinical laboratory science).
- Licensure:
- Current New York State license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT), Medical Technologist (MT), or Histotechnologist (HTL).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of grossing experience required.
- Experience with handling and processing biopsy samples and tissue specimens in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Experience in basic technical tasks in pathology (e.g., accessioning, staining, cytology preparation) is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of pathology laboratory procedures, including tissue processing, specimen handling, and lab safety standards.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks with a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a clinical setting.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including overtime, as needed.
Job Details:
- Shifts: 8-hour day shifts, Monday to Friday.
- Hours per Week: 40 hours guaranteed.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks with potential extension based on performance and facility needs.
