  a member of the NeuroPsychiatric Hospital family, is looking for a Clinical Nurse Educator to integrate academic knowledge, evidence-based principles, and clinical nursing expertise into educational experiences for both new Nursing employees and experienced Nursing staff. The Clinical Nurse Educator wiill utilize strategies and tools to assess competence of new nursing staff members, focusing on quality of care and patient safety goals. Class content includes not only didactic coursework but also hands-on clinical experience and lessons in professional responsibility. Contributes to quality and safety initiatives. The Educator is responsible for the development, management and delivery of system-wide clinical education, including educational aspects related to nursing orientation, clinical in-service, and community education. The primary goal of this position is twofold, first to improve patient care and outcomes including the patient experience through staff education and second, to increase support to staff through the feedback and performance improvement process through a partnership with the Director of Nursing. Functions as a source of clinical information for the facility. Functions under the supervision and direction of the Chief Nursing Officer.

• Researches, develops, implements, promotes, delivers, facilitates, documents, and evaluates education programs using evidence-based approaches and frameworks that support the organization and facility goals, objective, and regulatory standards; and also meet the ongoing educational needs of staff at each facility.
• Owns the clinical orientation program for the hospital and ensures that staff are trained to the level needed to perform their jobs successfully.
• Collaborates with the Chief Clinical Officer, Vice President of Clinical Services and other professionals to refine nursing education program content and creates content as needed.
• Teaches healthcare topics to unlicensed nursing staff as well as practicing nurses and acts as an educational resource for all staff.
• Oversees and assists in development of the Preceptor Program. This includes training of Preceptors for both license and unlicensed staff.
• Plans, implements and oversees orientation programs and provides CPR and CPI training to all staff.
• Obtains and maintains BLS and CPI instructor certifications.
• Develops, revises and utilizes competency tools for ensuring nursing staff practice meets accepted professional standards while collaborating with Directors of Nursing, Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer to identify needs.
• Provides ongoing staff development, continuing education, skills, annual competency assessments and leads local Skills Fair.
• Completes assessment of clinical staff using clinical competencies and other forms of knowledge testing.
• Collects data and information to validate an identified gap in professional practice and to determine the specific knowledge, skill, or practice deficit or opportunity needed. Investigates issues, trends, and supporting data to determine the needs of individuals, departments and organizations.
• Completes concurrent and closed chart audits daily and as deemed necessary to determine quality of documentation, knowledge retention and effectiveness of training. Communicates results of chart audits per protocol to determine staff needs.
• Provides one on one feedback as needed to support staff in their role. Holds follow-up meetings with new hires during their 90 day probationary period to determine need for additional training, act as a mentor, offer support and help ease transition.
• Promotes the generation and dissemination of new knowledge and use of evidence to guide clinical practice, improves patient care and foster lifelong learning. Role models practices for creating and sustaining positive learning and practice environments.
• Assesses learner characteristics, including learning styles and learning need for program development. Creates an effective learning environment, demonstrates proficiency in use of technology. Evaluates the outcomes of staff education, functions in the roles of both teacher and facilitator.
• Implements a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learner’s characteristics, learning needs, cultural perspectives, and outcome objectives. Plans programs that are culturally relevant and that incorporate concepts of multicultural and multi-generational education.
• Advises in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of materials, learning environments (i.e. virtual), and teaching strategies appropriate to the situation and learner’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, and culture.
• Supports the transition of nurses and other healthcare team members across learning and practice environments, roles, and professional stages. Mentors, guides, and supports NPH clinical staff as applicable.
• Participate in health promotion and community development activities including public relations exercises for the hospitals.
• Supports quality improvement initiatives and processes.
• Stay up to date with clinical trends and with nursing standards.
• Accountable for effective performance and follow-through of all assigned responsibilities, and for completing responsibilities within designated (or agreed upon) timeframes.
• Completes responsibilities in a manner consistent with organizational policies, goals and values.

• Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Understands and adheres to NPH’s compliance standards as they appear in NPH’s
• Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and hospital regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
• Five years of nursing experience required. Must have experience in nursing education and psychiatric and/or acute care.
• RN in the state of hospital is required. BLS and CPI certification obtained during orientation.
• Excellent verbal communication skills necessary in order to instruct and comfort patients and their families.
• Maintain effective contacts with a variety of Hospital Personnel.
• Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit/department.
